Return of Huey...various musings...

Well, it's been over a week since the last post... and it has been a somewhat hectic week for your local G-ologist... mainly still dealing with my dad, trying to get him 'used' to being somewhere other than home. Also, my 'dead face from root canal' deal is still lingering, but not as bad as a few weeks ago... either that, or I might be getting used to it... seems to be on the mend somewhat, tho...

ANYWAY... some good stuff now - First, my baby boy Reed was dedicated in church today...he did great - when the preacher got to us, he held him and said a few words, and Reed reached out and grabbed his nose...the congregation cracked up...was pretty funny - some pics are out there somewhere, if I run one down, will post it.

Second - got some pretty good yard work done on Saturday - was much needed... I am NOT a big yard workin' person... don't necessarily mind DOING it, but just am not GOOD at it...anything I plant croaks within a week...

OK, before this blog COMPLETELY turns into a 'Facebook' type deal, I have added a few Ginger pictures which are favs - all out of one book - I just scanned them in - not the best quality, but hopefully you get the picture (ba-dum-dah)... generally capturing her 'beginnings', 'heyday', and 'autumn' of her career, each in GRAND fashion, IMHO...

Ginger note...I watched 'Having Wonderful Time' today... it's a very cute movie, but the case of my copy has a 'poster' label which notes that Ann Miller was in it...I was actually watching with my Mom and Daughter, and Ma never saw Ann in it anywhere... is this an erroneous listing, or did we miss something?

OK - one last thing - will be doing more posting and other (hopefully) cool stuff soon... I have a few tests to take on the 15th, and probably will be in better shape after those... please be patient, y'all!

hope you are all doing well!

  1. Aaah, 30s pictures - that's swell!

As to your face, I had hoped it would just wear off quickly. But maybe the dentist injured a little nerve. The big molars are connected to a main face-nerve. But as you say, it got better: nerves usually find new ways to get connected to each other.

Strong belief in God-given, natural healing, always makes the healing-process faster. I guess 60% at the least is belief - if not 70 or 80% ... it'll come Huey.

What did you mean, they cracked up? Big applause? Standing ovations? - At the minimum.

  3. Quickly, before I leave the house:

On Gingers book I saw: PINK

Pink letters and other pink things, rather loud pink and quite dark.

Question: Is this the real Ginger-Pink (should be - it's GINGERS book)?

That would be swell, because it should be easy with a camera: If I fix a plain white before the shoot, I've got the same pink on the photo, like on the book.

    Bye!

  5. Annie's in it but apparently her scenes got cut. I think I read that she shows up in one scene over Red Skelton's shoulder. Welcome back Huey!

  8. I don't recall seeing Ann Miller either. Loved the movie though- especially when Ginger's playing backgammon over and over.

  9. Ahhh! So Little Man's name is Reed. Initially I told Lauren it should be Baby Huey, but that conjured images of a cartoon character of a plump baby duck, so Little Man it was. Anyway, that was a very cute story, and I hope you have some pictures to share.

As for your face, I take it as a good sign that it seems less numb. Dr. Fioraon sees that as improvement which can take time. Still got my fingers crossed for you.

In regard to what SassyG said about Ann in Having a Wonderful Time, at about the 19 minute mark, Red Skelton does his first routine, and you can see Ann in the background. At least I think that's her. She's listed in IMDb as uncredited.

  10. CS - thanks for the encouragement - it is healing, and hopefully will be back to normal in a week or so... and let's just say Reed got the biggest laugh of the bunch that was on the stage... :-]

Gingeyginge - thanks for the kind words...hope your week goes great, too!

CS #2 - Hmmm...not sure if there is a 'Ginger Pink', but she probably favored a certain 'shade' of pink, I reckon...there's 'Barbie Pink', and then there's 'Rosy Pink'...something tells me the more 'subdued' pink was the one... but yeah, that pink on her bio is SHOCKING pink!

SG - I thought that would be where Ann would show up...for a second I thought it might be the girl sitting at the table before being 'shoo-ed off' by Red... but you don;t get a real good look at her, with the back to the camera... thanks - it's good to be able to post every once and again... hopefully will get a few things going this weekend... hey, did you ever check out the YouShare deal? Just askin'... :-]

Camille - Glad you like the pics! Those are from an old paperback book, so not the greatest quality - but turn out fair, I guess... I really like all 3 of those...

ALD1296 - Glad you like the pics, too! And, I WILL post a pic sooner or later which shows Reed putting the 'death grip' on preacher man's nose... the lady taking photos for the newsletter/website/whatever got one that looked perfect...said she would get one to us...

Sarah - It is kinda weird when a movie publicizes someone and they aren't really in the film...really sad that she evidently had a scene probbaly dancing, and was cut... but she was definitely listed on the 'poster' cover - the old original one... Ginger backgammon...you know, that would just suit me fine...if I were the 'Buzzy' dude, I would have never zonked out... we would STILL be out there somewhere playing... I'm a FIEND, indeed! :-]

Baby Huey... sooner or later my wife will collar him with that moniker...his middle name IS Hughes... but the current nickname he has from me is 'Bam-Bam'... just give him a little caveman club and he will be set... of course, he is still just crawling... he is gonna be a bit 'late' walking, the doc said, probably because he is just so BIG! not fat, really, just off the charts, proportion-wise... but he is healthy as a horse, and is really pretty funny... I was putting him to sleep last night, and thought I had him zonked out on my shoulder - so I got up and laid him gingerly (pun intended, I reckon) in bed... covered him up and everything, and just when I was about to walk away, he held his noggin up and turned to me with the biggest cheshire cat grin on his face... like, 'BOOM! I got you!' It was SO classic...would have been a killer 'America's home video' moment... heh heh.
The face is doing better... I get my 'real cap' in a few weeks, and hopefully by then the face will be almost 'awake' again... thanks for the thoughts...
It's even weirder that she isn't credited...she wasn't listed at the end credits, but was on this poster thingie...it just makes you think there HAD to be a routine or something she did, and would be cool to see it... sad that a lot of the 'cut' scenes never saw the light of day, and a lot were probably discarded... Maybe Maggie can hunt down some of them...would be cool!

OK - hope I responded to all - think I did - thanks for the comments! And, btw... hope the 'new look' of the site is ok...please reply with any comments / suggestions... thanks!

  11. ...BTW...The 'Baby Huey' response was hopefully taken by all to be for Lady Fioraon... a grievious mistake on my part, not properly referencing you, me laydee! Please forgive me... :-]

  12. quote:Huey>>CS #2 - Hmmm...not sure if there is a 'Ginger Pink', but she probably favored a certain 'shade' of pink, I reckon...there's 'Barbie Pink', and then there's 'Rosy Pink'...something tells me the more 'subdued' pink was the one... but yeah, that pink on her bio is SHOCKING pink!<<

'Rosy Pink': guess you mean a soft, pale pink (with lots of white in it). Basically pink is always a pastel-red (pale red) - the question is the quantity of white in it, this makes the pink dark or light. But there's another aspect: Pink might contain a wee bit blue (cool pink), or even yellow ('piggy'-pink); or it is moderated with grey, to a discreet brownish pink-tone (this makes it less 'shocking' for some people).

So it's not gonna be easy to find out Ginger's Pink. Maybe she liked various pink tones? Ginger might be pleased, if we presented the whole pink scale, to remember her likings. When "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town" is through, Jean will allow me a vacation until the 20th. So I'll have time to work out the pink scale, making a few spots with Linux-Paint and name those bitmaps with the RGB-figures.

Actually pink isn't a shocking color at all. Pure red is really aggressive and orange even more. In former times red was a male color and pink in use for little boys, while girls wore rather light blue. Later pink became the color for little girls and young women - and homosexual men. Therefore people think, pink would have to do with weakness and female emotions - rather embarrassing things in our days. - Maybe Dr. Virginia Katherine McMath would agree, that pink-fear has to do with being afraid to show emotions...

I should find a few photos on various sides of our Fellow-Gingerologists, which present Ginger in pink clothes.

P.S.: The TCM-schedule is like a bunch of flews! Every time I look it up, the time is different. I'm in sort of confusion.

  13. Maybe your version of the HWT poster is a re-release poster. Ive seen a poster from Stage Door that is obviously a re-release poster because it prominently features Lucille Ball, Eve Arden and Ann Miller who were much bigger stars later on. Also the pics of Ginger and Kate are more "grown up" pictures. Found it! http://www.moviegoods.com/Assets/product_images/1020/428571.1020.A.jpg

  14. CS - the only pink dress I remember her in was at the end of Barkleys... 'Manhattan Downbeat'... and that puppy was INTENSE pink... almost a 'light magenta'... She probably wasn't all that specific about the shade... you know, she would have gotten along swimmingly with Shabby Chic Diva, now that I think about it... she has her 'Pink Saturday' series...

SG - It looks kinda like the original poster, since they had Red Skelton listed as 'Richard ("Red") Skelton'... but then again, it almost looks like it could be a couple of 'images' stuck together on this DVD cover... the version I have is from an outfit called 'Hollywood's Attic'...and honestly it is a pretty clean copy of it... I still may buy the 'WB Archive' version, tho, and give the current copy to my Ma... she likes that one pretty well...
