74 years to the day when Miss Kitty met Oscar...

...and, curiously enough, 80 years to the day that 'The Continental' won the first ever 'Best Song'... which Ginger happened to sing... and SHOULD have had another Oscar for... but anyway...
CHEERS to Miss FOYLE!!!

And KIG, y'all!!!

...just a reminder...

...that FXM Retro is showing three Gingerfilms from the 20th Century - Fox catalog TOMORROW - Monday, February 23 - check the listings, but generally begins at 6 A.M. Eastern Time... this trio includes

Roxie Hart...

Dreamboat...

and Teenage Rebel...

...so, hope y'all get to catch these if you have never seen them...or even if you have! All three are good views...ESPECIALLY Roxie, of course...

...and MIGHT this cluster of GingerFilms be a hint of a new release from Fox...in the form of Hat Check Girl, which was a Fox Film?  We can hope...it's good to know there's a copy or two out there waiting for further viewing...

Well, other than that, hope everyone is safe and warm, as the winter just keeps on doing its thang... unfortunately... hang on, spring SHOULD be showing up in another month or so...

KIG, y'all!

...two Years of FaceBook for Gingerology...

...wow, guess it's been that long, huh?
...well, after some hesitation, Hu decided to join ...well, the rest of the free world... in joining FaceBook - and it has been an incredible resource for all things Ginger... just an INFINITE amount of GingerPics (such as the awesome one here...), GingerStories, and GingerInfo... all in 'real time'!

It's not too hard to see that FB will (and generally already HAS) supplant most other forms of 'information gathering' and 'live' info sharing... but hopefully there's still a spot for blogs in general, as they can document stuff in a less 'stream of consciousness' mindset... if you don't grab a pic or a link on FB right when you see it, it may be buried under 50 pages of new stuff within a few hours! And honestly, it's so hard to keep up with 'posting and re-posting' folks do regarding GingerPics, I'll just say that ANY pics which show up in a post here are most likely from SOMEWHERE on FB... so thanks to those folks!!!
The Ginger FB Community is VERY close-knit, and are dedicated to our girl like no other fan base... Gingerologists are a tenacious bunch, no doubt! We do 'GingerFilm viewing parties', which are pretty fun - we make comments 'in-movie'... it's time for another one of those - GingerPeachy is our 'coordinator / overseer / MC' for all of these events...
...this pic above is just perfect... DANG!!! not sure of the exact 'time' of this one, but has to be in the sixties... just incredible!!!

Well, with that, hope to see y'all over on FB soon...if you haven't found us, a good 'meeting spot' would be "Ginger Rogers Book Club", which is kind of the 'home base' for Gingerologists - again created by Peachy (she REALLY needs to be put on the payroll...I'll even pay her what I make over here / there... )  - most Gingerologists are afoot there at some point...

And with that, perhaps my favorite 'snippet' from FaceBook, by some 'random' chance, but truer words have never been spoken, albeit QUITE understated:
With that, thanks to all for supporting Gingerology - still trying to get some stuff going here...lotsa ideas, no TIME... but it's gonna happen... until then...

...KIG, y'all!!!

...EXPANDED schedule for the MoMA GingerFilm screenings...

...thanks to Monica Kelly on FB for posting the EXPANDED schedule for the MoMA "Acteurism: Ginger Rogers" exhibit/screening of choice GingerFilms... here's the link:

FULL schedule of MoMA's "Acteurism: Ginger Rogers"

...added to the list (in addition to Top Hat, Follow The Fleet, Stage Door, and Vivacious Lady) are the following GingerFilms:

"Kitty Foyle" (March 4,5,6);

"Lady In The Dark" (March 11,12,13);

"I'll Be Seeing You" (March 18,19,20);

"A Night in the Dormitory (short)" and "The First Traveling Saleslady" (March 25,26,27).

...the thing that jumps out here is Lady in the Dark, and the potential quality of their copy... hopefully all you G-ologists have a copy of this one, but there's not a 'crisp' one I've seen - there may not be. It was shot in Paramount's 'Technicolor', which just did not hold up well over 70 years... REALLY wish Paramount, or whomever owns Paramount, would 'remaster' this one or whatever... again, not the BEST GingerFilm, but... the Jenny scene ALONE is well worth the price of admission...

Another neat part of the schedule is the pairing of one of Ginger's early 'shorts', "A Night in the Dormitory", with one of her last films (as well as the VERY last 'original studio' RKO movie), "The First Traveling Saleslady"... nice 'bookends' of our girl's film career.

...And it's nice to see "I'll Be Seeing You" getting the accolades it deserves, as a romantic drama (rom-dra?) which hits some topics which weren't too 'warm and fuzzy', especially for a film released in the final stages of WWII... if you haven't seen it, DO...required for all G-ologists... well, heck, ALL of 'em are required viewing, right?

Of course, Kitty speaks for herself...Judas Priest!

Well, hope y'all can somehow catch one or two of these screenings if you are in the NYC area... Hu has no such luck, as South Gingerville is quite a few furlongs away from Gotham... if y'all do, please report in and inform us of anything experienced at the screening.

Hope everyone has a Great Gingery weekend!!!

KIG!

GingerNews for February 2015...

Hi y'all! Well, it appears there are a few things happening here and there which are quite Gingery in nature during the month of February... Here's a few:
FIRST, this is pretty cool... the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in NYC is featuring Ginger in their February 'Acteurism' series... a quartet of of well-known GingerFilms will have multiple screenings: Top Hat, Follow The Fleet, Stage Door, and Vivacious Lady. here's a few links to the schedules, as well as the 'general overview' of the series, which begins TOMORROW (2/4/15):
MoMA Press Release - Acteurism: Ginger Rogers - February 2015
MoMA Schedule - Acteurism: Ginger Rogers - February 2015
...although these are films we know by heart, it's still a cool experience to see a GingerFilm in public (well, I guess... unfortunately I haven't had the chance...) and perhaps share with others and discover new Gingerologists out there!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

SECOND, The TCM Classic Film Festival, from March 26 to March 29, 2015 in Hollywood, will include a 'World Premiere' screening of a restored version of the 'film that saved Warner Brothers', 42nd Street. Here's a link to Festival info:
TCM Classic Film Festival 2015 INFO
...BTW, a pretty cool poster for it above, but a fatal flaw...NO GINGER!!!
...hope some of y'all get to attend...I know the premiere of Hat Check Girl was a great event for those lucky few who got in... the prices for this event are quite steep, at least from Huey's ledger...
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

THIRD, check this link out... a COOL recent 'caricature' of Ginger from John Fisher...incredible artist! The drawing is from the pic above, one of my fave 'early blonde' GingerPics... be sure to mosey on over there and leave a comment...
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

FOURTH, here is some interesting prose from Ward McBurney regarding Ginger and Fred's classic 'Top Hat'...  again, comments here and/or there would be of interest...
GingerProse-TopHat-McBurney
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

and FIFTH, THIS site has a nice presentation and info regarding one of Ginger's 'shorts' from 1930, Paramount's 'Office Blues'... including the whole 15-ish minute clip, which is also on youTube - well, it may depend on what day it is regarding YT, so... this site will hopefully have a 'permanent' access to it.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

WELL, that should hold y'all for a few, anyway... I hope to be doing these 'GingerNews' deals at least once a month, just to document Gingery happenings...a lot of things are posted on FaceBook, but dang, things get buried QUICK over there... so, here we are, to be the 'in case you missed it' spot. And I will give credit if anyone finds GingerNews which is ultimately posted... no problem!

And I will also 'transfer' GingerPics collected from FB over here, and just set up a 'pic-post' every now and then...if anything a nice 'backup'...and again, will give credit to whomever unearthed any GingerPic in question... we've got some great 'hunter / gatherers' over there!!!

Hope everyone out there is having a VERY Gingery week!!!

Until next time...

KIG, Y'ALL!!!
