Memorial Day...

Hope everyone is having a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend... but also pausing to remember the fallen heroes that defended our country over the decades. A humble thanks to all the men and women who have served, are serving, or will serve for our country.
Also, a reminder (especially for Maggie!) that TCM is airing "The First Traveling Saleslady" tomorrow morning at 6 am Eastern... a cute movie, significant for two things (well, other than Ginger's presence, of course...): This was the LAST RKO Radio movie ever made... and, was also one of the early roles for Clint Eastwood, as well as Carol Channing's second role (always thought it was her first, but TCM has her in one before this one...) Anyway, early roles for those two, in addition to James Arness, a.k.a. Marshal Dillon from 'Gunsmoke'.
Another random bit of info... the WB Archive Collection has cut prices - most are now $13.99, so getting quite reasonable... again, the Ginger titles available are: "Tom, Dick and Harry", "Once Upon a Honeymoon", "Having Wonderful Time", "Perfect Strangers", "Weekend at The Waldorf", and "Fifth Avenue Girl". They release about 10-12 new ones every couple of weeks, but it seems that recently, they have been delving into the more 'recent' titles from the 70's and 80's...
A final note - it appears that my dad is at the end of the road... he will probably not make it through the weekend. Thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers... we are all doing ok, knowing that it is his time to pass into the great beyond.
Again, everyone have a great and safe weekend!
KIG!

Poll results and other things...

Well, the results are in, and Shall We Dance won by a 2-to-1 margin over #2, Swing Time... the 'They Can't Take That Away From Me' connection was really the 'deal sealer', I believe... thanks to all who participated!

I was on some blog where SG was talking about pics from a Ginger book - and I mentioned one in there from the movie "Tom, Dick and Harry" that I am gonzo over... well, here ya go...

...just awesome... harkens back to the 'blonde/brunette' poll... it justifies my 'brunette' vote (yes, for you 'newbies', 'Blonde Ginger' won by a landslide, as well it should...in fact, I believe I was the ONLY one who voted 'brunette'...) but DANG, she looks devastating here!

OK - some things I am trying to get rolling - I moseyed on over to the 'official' Ginger Rogers page (which is not too swuft, as far as keeping up with things), but it got me to thinking, "I need to put more FACTS about Ginger on G-ology" - I know most of us are pretty well versed in her 'bio', and general facts, but that info should be available for the 'drive-by' person just lokoing for general Ginger info... so I am going to try to get something going on that... ANY suggestions on how to set that up would be greatly appreciated... a bit back it was stated that 'blogger' has a feature where you can 'link' files to the page, not unlike a pure 'website'... that would work!

Anyway, other things afoot, too, just need to find a few minutes here and there...

Keep It Gingery, Y'all - and thanks for your support!!!

...Hughes, Hugh and Huey...

...What do these three Hapless Hucksters Have in common? (Other than a lot of 'H's?) ...it is safe to say that all three (Howard Hughes, Hugh Hefner, and Huey [yours truly] ) are MAJOR fans of Miss Ginger Rogers... heck, one of the three was 'kinda' close to marrying her, until he went mondo bonkers... another one thought she would be a perfect subject for his periodical (see link below)... and the last one? Well, he is just trying to Keep It Gingery for future generations of Gingerologists to Gingerfy!!!

http://www.newyorker.com/talk/2010/05/10/100510ta_talk_goodyear

...about the closest you'll see Miss Rogers sans attire...

OK - anyway - check the column from The New Yorker - interestingly, my Mom read this out of a copy that I gave her from the mound of mail my dad's P.O. box gets weekly (he subscribed to dozens of magazines...he's still with us, but he is a bit too willing to parlay money out to everybody and their brother...hence the 'my access only' P.O.) Anyway, I guess Hef isn't all that bad...seems to be a Gingerologist at heart... although the chances that Ginger ever would have 'posed' in Playboy? About the same as Howard's estate sending me that million-dollar inheritance check...

Any comments or thoughts are welcome...

Keep It Gingery!

New Poll...

Greetings, Gingerologists! I finished up my tests yesterday, so should be back to 'normal' posting... and, as suggested by the resident O.G.R.E. (for the new folks, that is the Official Ginger Research Expert... a.k.a. SassyGinger...), a NEW POLL!!! The question is as follows:

Which of the following Ginger and Fred movies would best serve as the 'prequel' to "Barkleys of Broadway?"

"Flying Down To Rio"........

"Roberta"........

"Follow The Fleet"........

"Swing Time"........

"Shall We Dance"........

...As for the 'background', most folks 'round these parts know that 'Barkleys' set out to be the 'sequel' to "Easter Parade", but after Judy Garland had to step away from the production, Ginger stepped in, and the rest is history...
As to the choices above, the only criteria was that both of the GandF characters had to be in show biz, which is more often than not the case in a GandF film..."The Castles", while fitting the 'show biz' criteria, obviously could not have a sequel w/o Vernon, and it was a true story, anyway... "Swing Time" is 'marginal', but after 'Never Gonna Dance', you just figure they were gonna make a living hoofing, right?

Well, hope this poll makes ya think a bit... it really is tough to just pick one to be the 'most likely'...

Hope to post more frequently... until then,

Keep It Gingery!!!

A reminder for all you mamas out there...

...First of all, Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there... y'all ROCK!!!

...Well, TCM is airing one of Ginger's best tomorrow morning (6:30 AM Eastern) - Bachelor Mother...hopefully most have seen it, but just in case, here is another shot at snagging it... I found the poster above... guess it ties in with the recent Cinco de Mayo, so there you go...dang, Ginger is quite prominent compared to David Niven... well, no complaints here! :-) Pretty interesting to see 'MAMA' scrawled below Ginger... sad that she never became a mom, but just not sure if she felt she could devote enough time to a child... but this movie is just awesome, if only to see her interaction with the baby in it... she would have been quite the 'Mama', I do believe!

Also, I am pretty jazzed that there are now FIFTY fellow Gingerologists who have joined up with the site....AWESOME! So great that y'all are interested in Ginger, and I am hoping to put a lot of cool stuff on here soon...know I have been singing that tune for awhile now, but this time next week, hopefully... in a related deal, if ANYONE out there has a relatively simple way to add a 'mp3 player' directly onto a blog, it would be appreciated... the few 'tutorials' I have found either seem to be pretty 'limited' players, or the installation involves much wailing and gnashing of teeth... grrrrr.... anyway, any info would be GREATLY appreciated!

Keep It Gingery, y'all!!! ...and thanks again for the support!

Return of Huey...various musings...

Well, it's been over a week since the last post... and it has been a somewhat hectic week for your local G-ologist... mainly still dealing with my dad, trying to get him 'used' to being somewhere other than home. Also, my 'dead face from root canal' deal is still lingering, but not as bad as a few weeks ago... either that, or I might be getting used to it... seems to be on the mend somewhat, tho...

ANYWAY... some good stuff now - First, my baby boy Reed was dedicated in church today...he did great - when the preacher got to us, he held him and said a few words, and Reed reached out and grabbed his nose...the congregation cracked up...was pretty funny - some pics are out there somewhere, if I run one down, will post it.

Second - got some pretty good yard work done on Saturday - was much needed... I am NOT a big yard workin' person... don't necessarily mind DOING it, but just am not GOOD at it...anything I plant croaks within a week...

OK, before this blog COMPLETELY turns into a 'Facebook' type deal, I have added a few Ginger pictures which are favs - all out of one book - I just scanned them in - not the best quality, but hopefully you get the picture (ba-dum-dah)... generally capturing her 'beginnings', 'heyday', and 'autumn' of her career, each in GRAND fashion, IMHO...

Ginger note...I watched 'Having Wonderful Time' today... it's a very cute movie, but the case of my copy has a 'poster' label which notes that Ann Miller was in it...I was actually watching with my Mom and Daughter, and Ma never saw Ann in it anywhere... is this an erroneous listing, or did we miss something?

OK - one last thing - will be doing more posting and other (hopefully) cool stuff soon... I have a few tests to take on the 15th, and probably will be in better shape after those... please be patient, y'all!

hope you are all doing well!
