June 19

1951: Margaret La Marr, who starred with Ginger in the film “42nd Street” (as Chorus Girl), died in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 37.

1877: Charles Coburn, who starred with Ginger in the films “Vivacious Lady” (as Mr. Morgan), “Bachelor Mother” (as J. B. Merlin) and “Monkey Business” (as Mr. Oliver Oxley), was born in Savannah, Georgia.

1966: Ed Wynn, who starred with Ginger in the film “Follow the Leader” (as Crickets), died in Beverly Hills – Los Angeles, California, at the age of 79.

2012: FMC aired “Tales of Manhattan”.

2015: FXM RETRO aired “Tales of Manhattan”.

2016: FXM RETRO aired “Monkey Business”.

June 20

1913: Helen Keeler, who starred with Ginger in the film “42nd Street” (as Chorus Girl), was born in New York City.

1972: Sidney Lanfield, who directed the Ginger films “Hat Check Girl” and “Broadway Bad”, died in Marina del Rey, California, at the age of 74.

2016: FXM RETRO aired “Monkey Business”.

June 21

1904: Mack Gordon (born Morris Gittler), who starred with Ginger in the film “Sitting Pretty” (as Meters – Song Publisher), and actually WAS a quite prolific songwriter, was born in Warsaw, Poland.

Summer 1957: Ginger divorced Jacques Bergerac; the marriage lasted just over four years.

Summer 1960: Ginger portrayed Annie Oakley in the play “Annie Get Your Gun”, consisting of a five-city summer theater circuit tour.

Summer 1963: Ginger appeared in the play “The Unsinkable Molly Brown”, consisting of a summer theater circuit tour in the western U.S.

Summer 1969: Samuel McGredy and Son, Nurserymen (Ireland) introduced the “Ginger Rogers” Rose at The Irish Rose Growers association flower show – the rose is a cross between a ‘Tropicana’ and a ‘Miss Ireland’.

1992: Alice Jans, who starred with Ginger in the films “42nd Street” (as Chorus Girl) and “Gold Diggers of 1933” (as Gold Digger), died in San Bernardino, California, at the age of 79.

June 22

1891: Harry Seymour, who starred with Ginger in the films “The Tenderfoot” (as Newsstand Proprietor), “You Said a Mouthful” (as Announcer), “42nd Street” (as aide), “Twenty Million Sweethearts” (as Buddy’s Announcer), “Upperworld” (as Passerby Talking to Officer Moran), and “Monkey Business” (as Clothing Store Salesman), was born in New York City.

1906: Billy Wilder, who directed the Ginger film “The Major and the Minor”, was born in Poland.

1957: Eddie Tamblyn (born Edward Tamblyn), who starred with Ginger in the films “Flying Down to Rio” (as a Yankee Clipper) and “Follow the Fleet” (as Sailor), died in Hollywood, California, at the age of 49.

1987: Fred Astaire, who starred with Ginger in ten films which ALL Gingerologists should know by heart, died in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 88.

2011: TCM aired “The Major and the Minor”.

2011: FMC aired “Teenage Rebel”.

2013: FMC aired “Tales of Manhattan”.

Crozzled - Something that is not right; mixed-up. (from Lauren of 'The Ginger List' - a word she created and was 'adopted' by first generation G-ologists).

Gingerbilia - collectible merchandise (i.e., memorabilia) connected with GR.

Gingercentric - Any topic which primarily concerns a facet of GR.

GingerCentury - an exhibit of artifacts and memorabilia from GR, which were on display in the Richards - Frost Room of the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center on the campus of Boston University from October 24, 2011 to approximately January 2013. (from Roberta Olden)

Gingeresque - Something or someone who reminds one of GR.

GingerFilm - A motion picture featuring GR.

GingerFunk - The feeling of wooziness one has after watching a GR film, with all one's energy and emotion totally sapped from the awesomeness of Ginger... happens to Hu quite often. syn.GingerHangover.
Gingerfy - To make something Gingery. (from Arianna Burtis)

GingerGloss - A typical polished, stellar performance from GR. (from Elaine Marriott, as suggested by Barbara Atkinson)

Gingerholic - One who is generally addicted to GR.

Gingering - To make something more Gingery in nature.

Gingerneer - One who creates 'custom' videos or artwork addressing GR. (from Maggie Larkin)

Gingerology - The beautiful science of Miss Ginger Rogers!

Gingerless -Without any reference or resemblance to GR.

Gingerlicious -VERY Gingery in nature.

Gingerly - In the Gingerology sense, to perform a task in the manner GR would.

Gingernetics - The incredible genetics which produced Ginger, primarily from Lela... (from Barbara Atkinson)

Gingerous - To act in a Gingery manner.

Gingerrific - Something regarding Ginger which is...terrific!

GingerSpeak - Any phrase or word which references a facet of GR.

Gingersync -  When one or more Gingerologists share a Gingeresque thought simultaneously (from Arianna Burtis)

GingerTask - A task one does which is related to GR; for example, a GingerFilm review.

GingerTennial - Term used in reference to Ginger's 100th Birthday, which occurred on July 16, 2011. For subsequent birthdays, one may add the number exceeding 100 on the end as shown in the following example:  for Ginger's 102nd Birthday, the expression is "GingerTennial +2".

Gingertory - The inventory of one's Gingerbilia.

GingerTunes - A song performed by GR.

Ginger Up - Akin to 'cheer up'; to become filled with good humor and confidence in one's endeavors.

Gingery - To act in a spirited and self-assured manner, as GR would.

GingeryBay - The act of browsing, bidding, and/or purchasing Gingerbilia on eBay.

Gingery Connection - Any instance which reminds one of GR. (from Arianna Burtis)

GingerZinger - A witty retort attributed to GR; e.g., "It must have been hard on your mother, not having any children..."

Gooberhead - A general derogatory, yet unfortunately accurate, term used when describing any of Ginger Rogers' five husbands; also may be used for certain directors.

GR - Ginger Rogers' initials - used within the GingerSpeak tome for 'shorthand'.





Keep It Gingery! - To partake in forms of media which feature GR; also, to go about everyday with a positive, confident and carefree attitude. (from Beth Rose Stephens)

KIG! - Acronym for "Keep It Gingery!"




OptimumGinger - In the specific sense, engaging in a GingerFilm marathon or its equivalent... in the general sense, a situation which is basically perfect... example... "Man, that cheeseburger was OptimumGinger!"

Paramount Pentateuch - Description of Ginger's first five 'feature films', which were all from Paramount's New York studios. These films are: "Young Man of Manhattan", "Queen High", The Sap from Syracuse", "Follow the Leader", and "Honor Among Lovers".

Purt Near - A colloquialism from Huey's region of the United States which means "almost"; "Pretty Near".




South Gingerville - The 'home base' of Gingerology and its founder, VKMfanHuey.

The Power of Ginger - Inspiration drawn from GR, which 'drives' Gingerologists to overcome any obstacle or adversity. (from Arianna Burtis)




VKM - The initials of Ginger Rogers given name, Virginia Katherine McMath.

VKMfanHuey - The 'formal' handle of the author of the Gingerology blog.
