Poll results and other things...

Well, the results are in, and Shall We Dance won by a 2-to-1 margin over #2, Swing Time... the 'They Can't Take That Away From Me' connection was really the 'deal sealer', I believe... thanks to all who participated!

I was on some blog where SG was talking about pics from a Ginger book - and I mentioned one in there from the movie "Tom, Dick and Harry" that I am gonzo over... well, here ya go...

...just awesome... harkens back to the 'blonde/brunette' poll... it justifies my 'brunette' vote (yes, for you 'newbies', 'Blonde Ginger' won by a landslide, as well it should...in fact, I believe I was the ONLY one who voted 'brunette'...) but DANG, she looks devastating here!

OK - some things I am trying to get rolling - I moseyed on over to the 'official' Ginger Rogers page (which is not too swuft, as far as keeping up with things), but it got me to thinking, "I need to put more FACTS about Ginger on G-ology" - I know most of us are pretty well versed in her 'bio', and general facts, but that info should be available for the 'drive-by' person just lokoing for general Ginger info... so I am going to try to get something going on that... ANY suggestions on how to set that up would be greatly appreciated... a bit back it was stated that 'blogger' has a feature where you can 'link' files to the page, not unlike a pure 'website'... that would work!

Anyway, other things afoot, too, just need to find a few minutes here and there...

Keep It Gingery, Y'all - and thanks for your support!!!

  1. Maybe I didn't get this either.

But I guess we all know that Ginger WAS dark. In her book she recalls the story how a hairdresser made her blonde, without asking her. Lela was furious, but Ginger liked it.

Actually humans look best with their natural tone - in most cases. But if blonde isn't too yellow, it often looks good. Turning black is the greater problem - makes often look like 'undead'. But OK, some people like to look like a zombie.

  2. It wasn't exactly a blond, though. It was platinum in the early 30s, but by her movies with Fred, it was very strawberry. There is a really nice color photo from Follow the Fleet that shows how red it was, even though it read as blond on film. Even though I love brunette Ginger (especially in pics of her with little/no makeup), blondie will always have my heart.

  3. Oh THAT picture - youre right. Thats a good one! Maggie, youre right about how its very blond in the G&F films but remember in Swing Time when Lucky is asked what kind of instructor he would prefer. He asks for one with strawberry blonde hair and points to the picture of Penny/Ginger with her obvious blond hair.

Hmm..I wonder if you could have some kind of rotating section that each time a user refreshes the page it would show a different fact.

  4. SassyGinger--That is so funny I was thinking of the same part in Swing Time :-D

I loved Ginger's overall look in Tales of Manhattan. The dark look was very becoming and suited the character. But of course as has been said, blonde Ginger wins out.

  5. CS - Yes, she was one of the few who could ROCK as blonde or 'brunette-red'...

Maggie - Good point about the gradual hair 'darkening' over the course of the 30's...

SG - actually, doesn't Fred ask for the 'red-head'? I think so, cause it was like, "dude, she is BLOND!" Or at least 'Strawberry blonde', which I have really NEVER known exactly what that entails...

Desarae - Tales of Manhattan... wow... I TOTALLY love her 'do in that one, although one could argue it is almost TOO much 'flip' or whatever that is called when you bunch up all the hair over your forehead (I am FAR from being a hairdresser, belive me, ladies...)

But, as all of you concur, GingerBlonde is the most recognized... sometimes I wonder if GandF would have been as popular if Ginger was 'non-blonde' in their movies... would have been interesting if she 'changed' for one of the 'heyday' movies, like Swing Time... just a thought.

    KIG, Y'all!
