...'tenative' becomes 'set'...

...Huey and the crew are headed to Boston and the Ginger Rogers Century exhibit at Boston University!!! We'll have to drive Ginger-like in order to make fair time...as such...
...basic philosophy of VKM driving school...STEP ON IT!!!!

Will be the second week in August...well, heck, two weeks from TODAY, as a matter of fact... here's hoping for a VERY Gingery trip... will also 'set up camp' in Maryland, not far from D.C., and will head to the Smithsonian...where we MAY find one of Ginger's gowns/dresses she donated...but the way they rotate items in and out, not sure if there will be one currently on display...will have to contact Ben Stiller to get into the Smithsonian 'storage caverns'...

But overall, should be a fun trip...lots of other things going on in Beantown...will tour Fenway Park...check out all the 'Revolutionary' sites there... maybe stroll thru Harvard... Boston Harbor... and so on and so forth... if any of y'all have any suggestions for Boston sightseeing, restaurants, etc... throw 'em out here! :-)

...as for 'near-term', yeah, I need to get cranking on 'Romance in Manhattan'...have just about finished my 'transferal' of Gingerflms to my new computer, so... should be ready to roll in a day or two with the review....AND to continue the 'setup' of the FilmBlogs...it's ongoing, y'all... I would like to get those set up for 'general databases', or whatever, for the masses out there to utilize...

Well, hope everyone is doing well, and ready for August...dang, July is a long, HOT month!...not that August will be any LESS hot or LESS long... just hang in there... and...

KIG. y'all!

  1. Hi There, I just spent a little time reading through your posts, which I found entirely by mistake whilst researching one of my projects. Please continue to write more because it’s unusual that someone has something interesting to say about this. Will be waiting for more!

  2. er...OK - thanks...I guess... not sure what is 'unusual' about Ginger... maybe you meant to say 'unique'?

...one thing's for sure... there will definitely be MORE Gingery goodness to follow!!!

    KIG! ...whoever U may B...

  3. Hey Huey,

If you make it to Boston, can you please take a picture of the "Hello, Dolly!" script in the last display for me - the one with Ginger's handwritten notes in the marges? Pretty please... it was one of my favourite artifices and my picture of it turned out to be all! Please?! (insert really cute face with pleding eyes here) lol!!

    1. will, do, MB!!! I'm gonna probably 'clear out' whatever device I will use for pics, and fill it up with Gingeryness!
Sounds pretty awesome... anything with 'gingerScribbles' on it would be priceless, no doubt... I bet she was a 'doodler', too... you know, taking notes in class or whatever, just drawing little doodles... gingerdoodles...hey, isn't that a type of cookie? It SHOULD be, right? :-]

  4. Hu,
I've never had any luck getting a look at the dresses donated to the Smithsonian by Ginger Rogers. If you see anything, let us all know where they are! The pink marble bust of Ginger is on display at the Portrait Gallery, don't miss that item. It isn't near the bulk of the museums but it isn't too far.

The food isn't too good in the museum area. The American Indian Museum has good food (for a museum) and the East Wing of The National Gallery of Art has an okay food court, plus the Matisse cut-outs are upstairs if you have time, they are pretty cool. The food is better AROUND the Portrait Gallery (inside is just pre-made sandwiches). I know you asked about Boston food but I've eaten a lot more in DC haha.

Have a GREAT trip. You've got relatives to show you around but if you need any other info or help about DC just ask.

    1. Dang...well, the bust is pretty great...and has an interesting 'backstory', to be sure...

...as for food, yeah, the 'museum food' isn't too great... our 'hosts' do pretty well with that, tho...my wife's uncle works at the IRS building, so he knows some spots... restaurants are not as 'prevalent' in downtown D.C....guess all the space is taken for ...well, governmental things!
The last time I was up there, they were just about to open the Native American Museum...so would like to check that out...heard mixed reviews on it, but, I'm sure it's pretty cool...
      Thanks for the info, 'e'!!!

  5. Hey Hu,

glad to hear that the Boston trip is all set!!! And good luck with seeing anything Gingery at the Smithsonian, although her bust is on display at the National Portrait Gallery (at least it was out July 5th)
Filled with envy here, working hard on dissertation, everything else including reviews for Top Hat, article on Adele and the blog is having to wait along with new youtube video..

Btw if you'd care to send some of that heat England's way we'd appreciate it!!!

    1. ...well, You've got a '2-nil' lead on me as far as the Boston trip, so... don't be TOO envious! But I'm really jazzed about it...

Hope dissertation goes well for ya...dang, school is always something, eh? Of course, work is pretty much the same, but at least ya get paid for work... Sounds like you'll be in great shape soon, tho!

Well, y'all can have all the heat ya want! We could pipe it over somehow... THERE'S a major project for someone to undertake! :-]

  6. Have fun going there, and make sure you get pics and a pic of that one me and Molly want! :D
Can't wait for the Romance in Manhattan film review, for some reason that's one of my favorite movies of hers.
Have you seen Ginger's page for summer under the stars on TCM? It's really really REALLY awesome! I had saved the pics on the page using the print screen button, it was just so cool I had to save it! :)
Have a great evening, and it's so hot here too, bleh.....been 100 like all week, and even tonight it's only going down to 88.....

    1. I'll get the pics, and hopefully enough to make a few cool posts...
...as for the 'RIM' review...will get rolling in a day or two on it...I am wanting to jump on it...we are getting to the 'big' Gingerfilms, and may be getting a bit 'tentative' about it...but hopefully time will allow for a proper treatment of these awesome films... I enjoyed RIM as well...but honestly have only seen it a few times...
...I'll jump over to the TCM page soon...might link it here... great to see Ginger as the center of attention, for one day, anyway!

We had a BIG storm a few days back, which cooled off things a bit the last few days, but by the weekend, we're back up to the high 90's...blah.... hang in there...

      KIG, GF!!!

  7. Hey Huey!!

I'm looking forward to the report of your trip. I can't wait to hear your opinion of the Ginger exhibit. As a diehard Yankee fan, I, of course, have great disdain for the Red Sox, but I do admit they have a real neat ball park. I can picture Bam Bam running the bases with Dad in hot pursuit :)

Have a wonderful trip to Beantown!

  8. ...well, I honestly don't have a dawg in the AL East hunt... they're all pretty cool...I know NY-Bos is VERY big, rivalry-wise...but y'know, I figured they'd be JUST a bit closer together...it's a nice little haul between the two! But the Green Monster is a 'must-see', especially if I'm gonna be there anyway, right? I guess Reed can be turned loose out there...not sure how the tours go, are probably pretty 'regimented', since they are 'on the hour'... Oh yeah, I remember you are a Yank fan!!! Well, heck...they are an awesome bunch, no doubt...when Bo Jackson was drafted by them out of high school, that was a pretty cool thing (he ended up at Auburn instead, and played at KC, of all places...) - I grew up an Aubie, so, that was a neat deal with the Yanks. And I won't bring up the Cubs... oof. The OGRE and I are long-suffering in that respect, even tho I am a fan 'from afar' (well, I guess she is one of those now, as well, from F-L-A...)...dang, I get tired of the Braves every year, y'know? :-]

It looks like I WILL probably get to go to a Baltimore-Bosox game...in Baltimore! Pretty weird, eh? And another 'development' regarding the Fenway tour...I was in Buffalo Wild Wings the other night, and they just happened to have the BoSox network on with a game... they ran an ad for a Bruce Springsteen concert, which will be at Fenway on August 15th! So, that MIGHT put the kibosh on any tours, as they will probably be setting up or whatever...we'll see. As long as he isn't playing in the Gottileb Exhibit Hall at BU, we're good... hey, I dig the Boss, don't get me wrong, but... Ginger trumps all, y'know? :-]

...just finished watching 'Romance in Manhattan'...pretty cute movie...and honestly, Ginger is just slap-dawg GORGEOUS in it - truly the most beautiful she has been to date - caps are gonna be a breeze for this one! ...her character is sweet, kind...maybe a bit sassy, but not much...kind of like the character in 'Chance at Heaven', except the dude turns out pretty good in this one throughout... so she doesn't 'play the fool', as it were... and a funny ending helps it out.

Well, heck, sorry I can't think of much to say, LF!!! :-]
