Ginger Trivia, Round Seven...Ginger's Leading Men...

...OTHER than those named 'Fred Astaire'...obviously Ginger's Leading Man for perpetuity, thus demanding an entire category to himself, which has been done before, and will be again, no doubt... (notice my deft use of commas in that sentence? Hope Blondie doesn't read this... :-] )
But this Round will focus on all the OTHER dudes who were VERY fortunate in finding themselves opposite Miss Rogers for at least one theatrical role - hats off to all these dudes - from a very jealous VKMfan...
Remember, the answers will be in the comment section, so DON'T go to the comments until you are ready for the answers!
-----
Here we go...(note - Jack Briggs is NOT the answer to either #1 or #2... VKMfan)
-----
QUESTION ONE: Ginger starred opposite one of her real-life husbands once (while they were actually married); name the man and the movie.
-
QUESTION TWO: Ginger starred opposite one of her FUTURE real-life husbands once; name the man and the movie.
-
QUESTION THREE: Norman Foster won Ginger's hand in two of the three movies he starred with her in; in the third one, he ended up with Claudette Colbert... name the three movies.
-
QUESTION FOUR: Name the actor who starred opposite Ginger in her two early 'mystery' movies, "A Shriek in the Night" and "The Thirteenth Guest".
-
QUESTION FIVE: There are two Ginger movies which both have three guys simultaneously vying for her attention...name the two movies, and extra credit if you can name the characters...
-
QUESTION SIX: Name the unfortunate fellow who does NOT have a happlily ever after with Ginger in not one, but TWO movies...big hint - one movie is from 1940, the other from 1950...x-cred if you name the movies also.
-
QUESTION SEVEN: Jack Carson was a repeat 'supporting' cast member in several of Ginger's movies, such as "Carefree", "Fifth Avenue Girl", and "Lucky Partners"; name the movie where he finally gets to be Ginger's leading man.
-
QUESTION EIGHT: Which two Ginger movies did Joel McCrea make a major mess in, but each time ended up on his feet and with Ginger?
-
QUESTION NINE: David Niven and Ginger ended up quite nicely in "Bachelor Mother"; name the other two movies that starred Niven and Ginger, but did not end with them being 'together'.
-
QUESTION TEN: Other than Fred, this fellow was the most fortunate with Ginger in regards to being her leading man, in that all three movies he appeared he eventually won her hand... name the actor and the three movies.

Assorted Things...

...of course, a friendly reminder to catch 'The Major and the Minor' tomorrow night (8pm eastern), and then 'Fifth Avenue Girl' on Wednesday morning (6am eastern). Both are classic, so if you don't have them, this is a good shot to snag them...

...Another thing in the back of my charred noggin is concerning the all-elusive 'Hat Check Girl', one of the few movies / shorts that the average Gingerologist (myself included) has not seen... it seems like I read somewhere on somebody's blog, or website, or e-mail, or papyrus scroll...that they have found a 'reel' copy of HCG, and is in the process of getting it 'transferred' into an electronic format....or, did I just dream this up? If the latter, I am in worse shape than I thought!
Anyway, if ANYONE has ANY info regarding this movie, please feel free to comment on it...I know Ginger's role is somewhat minimal, but... it's one of the last 'red' ones on my list...so, well, you understand... :-]

Finally, yes, I am still working on the 'This Day in Gingerology' feature...getting quite a few entries...honestly, still a few weeks away...or, maybe not. The great thing about this is that it does not have to be 'complete', EVER...in other words, it will be a 'perpetual' work in progress... so I should be able to get it started up soon...just going over her movies, and their release dates...some of the dates between TCM and IMDb are not correlating, so... part of the process... BTW, any info one may have would be greatly appreciated...exact dates are great, but 'estimates' are definitely accepted as well...

Thanks!

No Longer Need to Plead the Fifth...

...Fifth Avenue Girl, that is! The good folks over at Warner Archives have just released "Fifth Avenue Girl", from RKO Radio Pictures in 1939, on DVD! Here is the link to it:

http://www.wbshop.com/Fifth-Avenue-Girl/1000148008,default,pd.html?cgid=ARCHIVENEW

...for those of you unfamiliar with the WB Archive Series, it is well worth a look...they have hundreds of old movies from all genres, and the ones I have purchased (all involving Ginger, natch) have been pretty clean copies, the same general quality as one would see on TCM. The only 'down' side to this collection is there are NO special features or other general info...in other words, it is not unlike recording it directly off of TCM, except for maybe a bit better overall quality. So far, other Ginger movies in the WB Archive series are "Once Upon a Honeymoon", "Having Wonderful Time", "Weekend at the Waldorf", "Tom, Dick and Harry", and "Perfect Strangers".

As for this movie...it's great! Directed by Gregory La Cava, who also directed two other Ginger films, "Stage Door" and "Primrose Path", Ginger plays the role of Mary Grey, a struggling blue-collar girl who just happens to run into disgruntled millionare Alfred Borden (Walter Connolly) in Central Park one day. He has all but given up on his self-centered family, none of which have anything to do with him, but have plenty to do with his money. He befriends Mary, who is out of work, thus giving him an idea to try to get his family back. Mary becomes his 'personal assistant', among other things...or at least that is what he wants the family to think, in order to make them take notice. I'll leave the rest for you to watch... it really is a cool movie, and worth checking out!

Again HUGE props to WB for releasing this one, along with all of the archive series they have been releasing over the past year or so...GREAT!!!

IT'S OFFICIAL...GINGER ROGERS IS...

...TCM's Star of the Month for March!!!

...as a result, there are many new movies listed for that month that were heretofore not noted on their schedule...I will hopefully sort them out and get them on the 'Big Board' here shortly... Looks like Wednesdays will be the 'Ginger Nights'. This is a great opportunity to bolster your VKM collection, so BE PREPARED!!!

(A quite estatic) VKMfan

UPDATE...After sorting out the schedule...they are presenting 37 Ginger Rogers movies in the month of March...folks, that's over half of her 'catalogue'...MAJOR, MAJOR kudos, props, accolades, and whatever other good stuff you can think of, to TCM for this BIG TIME scheduling of Miss Rogers!!!

Ginger and Rita...cousins?

OK...

Just went over to The Vintage Vamp's 'new' blog (go check it out - already some great posts!) and found a KILLER pic of Rita Hayworth, which triggered a switch in my Ginger-riddled noggin concerning a similar pose that Ginger had...well, somewhat similar, anyway - enough to "compare and contrast".

Why?

Well, it has been 'rumored' that Ginger and Rita are cousins. So, I did a little 'research'...TCM flat out says they are cousins, but not what 'level' (first, second, etc.); the Wikipedia article states that "Hayworth's maternal uncle was married to Roger's maternal aunt". I guess that makes them "cousins-in-law", if there is such a thing... but they are not "Blood Kin". Something tells me the latter is the case, since strangely enough, Ginger does not even mention Rita in her biography (maybe they didn't get along? yow...talk about a catfight for the ages...ahem...but I digress...)

As for the pictures, just check out below and see if you spot any similarities (other than they are both devastatingly beautiful)...I see a few, and will divulge my findings on the other side of the pictures...

OK, well, the thing that jumped out at me was...the nose...it appears to me that they are pretty similar... now that is most likely a major coincidence, but... just a bit interesting... also, the eyebrows and the brow 'structure' (the actual bone part over the eyes) seem to be quite similar. Of course, the eyes are different, but both killer (although Ginger's eyes cannot be equaled...JMHO!)... and the mouths are quite a bit different. Both also had unbelievable hair, and Ginger's natural color probably lined up with Rita's. Interesting how their hair styles in these two pics are pretty much the same, unless I am really missing something (which would not be a surprise...)

So, honestly, not nearly enough to make a case, but just something to ponder a bit... BTW, they did both appear in a movie, albeit not together - "Tales of Manhattan"... and both were definitely on their game, believe me... :-P

Any comments y'all may have regarding this quazi-issue are quite welcome!

Sincerely, VKMfan

...well, hope y'all got to see 'Finishing School'...

...here in South Gingerville, we have had a touch of the winter snowstorm...well, we THOUGHT we were going to...ended up being a 'non-event' (they closed all the schools for the rest of the week, anyway) - so due to all that excitement, I just slap forgot to remind y'all about Finishing School...it is a pretty good movie, although Ginger is in a supporting role.

As for the Blog, I am cooking up some stuff...PROMISE... this weekend, unless some freakish occurrance happens, I will get some new stuff going...thanks for your patience.
