Seventeen Years Ago...

...Ginger went to the Great Beyond...

It's a very somber day for all Gingerologists - honestly, it's best to just reflect on her incredible life, and celebrate her greatness... so maybe spin a few Ginger movies today and remember all the Gingery goodness that she gave us to brighten up our lives, as well as those of future generations... it's so awesome that technology will 'preserve' most of her work for those future Gingerologists.

And to just present something a bit 'different' on this day that some of you may have not seen...here's a 'cartoon' editorial from Mike Peters, the dude who does 'Mother Goose and Grimm'...he is also an 'editorial cartoonist', and he did this one after Ginger's death...at first, you think..."er, a cartoon about the passing of someone?" ...but, after looking at it a bit...
...I believe he captured it PERFECT...cause, face it, isn't that how we ALL envision what's happening up there with Ginger and Fred? I always think of the final credits of 'The Castles', where they are dancing into the sunset, as it were... I love how she is 'floating'...which is truly how they danced on this terrestrial orb... and even the perfect song reference...it's kinda hard to argue with the fact that 'Cheek To Cheek' will FOREVER be their theme song (...sometimes I try to make it 'They Can't Take That Away From Me', but...I think that's an alternate, at best). I couldn't have come up with a more fitting eulogy for Ginger - great work, Mr. Peters.

Thanks to all the Gingerologists out there who are keeping her memory and legacy alive for future generations... That's my mission with this blog, and hopefully it will continue to be a 'source' for all things Ginger Rogers - but Y'ALL are really what makes this thing possible and work so well - great work.

As always, and ESPECIALLY today...

Keep It Gingery,

VKMfanHuey

  2. I've been off work sick, so spent the afternoon watching Ginger DVDs to cheer me up and to remember her today: Roberta, followed by Top Hat, then Vivacious Lady.

  3. I've seen that cartoon picture before. Fits perfectly! I always envision these two are dancing up there. :)
Nice post in remembrance for Ginger. May she rest in peace!

  4. Nicely said, Huey, and I concur!

I just stumbled across the following article on the website of The Chamber of Commerce of Shady Cove, OR. I love articles that portray Ginger at her best, and this sure does. If you haven't seen it, it's worth a read....

    Lovely tribute to Ginger

  5. BTW, Callmemadam....feel better! I think you found a good remedy. Movie therapy in general works pretty well, but add a touch of Ginger and it has great curative powers :)

  7. Ron - thanks - good to see ya back in the mix! Love the pic ya have of 'Ginger with hat'...she just looked awesome in hats...even 'marginal' hats...well that one is very cool... sigh...a sad time...but hey, we have most of her recorded media, so...that's pretty dang cool.

Madam - sorry to hear you are feeling bad, and hope you are better...I'm sure Ginger helped out in your recovery!

GF11: Thanks for the kind words... it's kinda tough to post on this day, but I ran across this one a few months back, and just thought it would be appropriate on this day...

Lady F: -thanks for the awesome link! I REALLLLLY want to get out to Oregon - first of all, I'm a HUGE Oregon Ducks fan...can't really say why, except...I AM! and, of course, the more I read about Ginger and how she loved the area, well, dang... sounds like West Hueytown to me!!! (BTW...I am actually only about 6 miles from a city CALLED 'Hueytown'...would be too obvious if I actually LIVED there... :-] )

ALD - I totally agree... it's great to know there are still many GingerFans out there...part of what G-ology is just to 'recruit' new fans, and hopefully find those that are already out there, but haven't stumbled upon us yet...

...in general, thanks again to all of y'all...KIG!
