Welcome to 2011...The GingerCentennial festivities have offically begun!

...well...hiyahiyahiya, y'all!!! ...first of all, sorry for the 'down time' between posts... I have not really had much happening, other than trying to get back to 'normal' from the holidays (although it is sleeting here as we speak, and by morning 3-4 inches of snow is expected, thus throwing the 'normal' thing back off for a few days...oh well...) ...anyway - hope everyone had a tremendous holiday season! Just rummaging through all my 'Gingerbilia', and found this beauty of a pic above, which I am guessing is from Barkleys... due to the hair, and also the eyebrows (yeah, we are REALLY Gingerologists, y'all...:-] )

The year 2011, of course, marks the 100th since Ginger's birth...and to celebrate, Gingerology will hopefully have lots of cool stuff going on...I have had a few things 'developing' for awhile now... and should be ready to get rolling on them!

Someone asked HOW will Gingerology celebrate on 07/16/11... well, the plan is... to be in Independence, Missouri - at 100 West Moore Street, of course - SOMETIME on the day of July 16, 2011... it just seems to be the right place at the right time... my wife has a cousin who lives in Kansas City, and we have been wanting to get up there to see her anyway... so it's really quite feasible, y'all... more info as it becomes available. I also just want to check out the archives or whatever there and see what kind of Gingery goodness I can unearth...
Here's a brief article and pic regarding Ginger's birth house..she lived there about a year or so, if I remember correctly... it's not extremely clear in her bio. I think this has actually been posted before, but...here ya go again:

OK - well, I am off now to prep for the 'blizzard' or whatever it is that's approaching nigh... hope all of you are faring well - it seems to be hitting everything east of the Mississippi. Stay hunkered down and fuzzy!!! :-] and of course, be sure to also...

KIG!

  1. Wooooooooooo! Now THAT will be quite a celebration! I think I might be planning my best youtube video yet! :D

  2. Okay the expert is at work again - yup the pic is from Barkleys. Thast the gown Dinah has on after her show when she realizes that it was Josh calling giving her advice.

Hope you guys are holding up under all that snow - the morning news said you guys were looking at 5 inches!

  3. That's such a gorgeous photo, Huey! Wow, I can't believe Ginger would be 100 this year! I can never picture classic stars being old...I always think of them in their prime. I can't wait to see the awesome stuff you'll come up with this year! :)

And to be in Ginger's birthplace on that day would be fabulous for you! I hope you'll make it there! I have to wait until 2018 for Ida's centennial and who knows if I'll be able to go all the way to England then haha.

Oh! And that article was very interesting! That's so neat her house is a historic landmark, and that they had Ginger Rogers Days in Missouri. :)

  4. Dynamite picture, Huey!!! Her color of hair, lipstick and nails were perfect! As one who always checks out her hands, I note her nails seem longer here. ;D

Isn't this the house that was/is up for sale? Did you buy it, Huey? Otherwise won't the owner be a bit miffed when we throw a birthday party in it?

I bet Little Man is very cute in the snow. There is something quite adorable about a toddler dressed in bulky winter jacket and boots trying to negotiate his way through snow. You should post a picture

  5. Two newspaper notices on Ginger being casted for the Red Haired Woman (finally played by Jean Harlow): December 1931 and Feb. 1932. Maybe the nastiest precode flicker I ever saw on YouTube. Thanks God Ginger didn't play that character!

  6. Soon the 100 years will be over and I have no idea how to dignify it. These days time seems to run faster than I can look out. Tomorrow starts May 1934.... hope that one will go a bit more leisurely for me....

  7. Anna: Sounds great! One of these years I am going to figure out how to make vids... there's a lot of cool ideas in my head, tho!!! Maybe that will be one of my 'resolutions' or whatever this year! In the meantime, I will leave it to the experts, such as yourself - can't wait for a new one from ya!!! :-]

SG: Good verification work! I suspected this - just thought her hair style was pretty close to Lady Dinah's... as far as the weather, well, we ended up with just a bunch of ice, with little snow... so, all the roads are messed up, schools are out at least thru tomorrow, and work is 'come in at 10, leave early before everything re-freezes'... will be 18 degrees tonight. Hopefully will clear out tomorrow, with full sunlight.

JH: Well, it is looking pretty feasible... if so, I will at least get some pics of the place, and again, try to dig up any Gingery stuff that the City of Independence has to offer. with the 'GingerDay' and all of that, there should be SOMETHING unique to that occasion on file... Truman's Library is about 5 blocks from this house, so, not sure if it would be the right place to look or not... City Hall, perhaps? Hope you get to Ida's place on her centennial, or sooner!

Lady F: Yep, I LUV that pic...she is 38-39 in that one...of course, I have had multiple diatribes concerning the 'middle-aged' Ginger and subsequent affects on Huey, so this one definitely reinforces that phenomenon... :-P
As for the 'status of Ginger's birth house... last I checked, the post that had it up for sale was 'gone', so it either sold, or they went with another realtor... in some ways, I hope it is 'vacant', so I can check it out unhindered...I will get whoever the real estate person is to allow me to 'view' it... but, if it IS occupied, maybe I can 'sweet talk' whomever into a few pics, and maybe a 'tour'...but that would require some major 'verve' on my part...we shall see...
as for LittleMan, we honestly didn't get him (or us) out much, since it was generally ice, and was worried about him (as well as us) slipping... the only thing it was good for is sledding, and there aren't many spots nearby... and of course, sleds are not commonplace here...YET, anyway... I feel pretty sure that we will have a major SNOW event this season...seems like we are in the 'pattern' this year - and we are 'overdue' anyway.

CS: Wow - weird you mentioned 'Red-Haired Woman' - I have that one on my 'to watch' list...thanks for the 'warning' about the 'pre-code'-iness of that one...Ginger dodged most of those, fortunately - her 'sauciest' role was 'Professional Sweetheart' - that role would actually have been nice for Harlow - of course, with Ginger in it the film is GOLD for me, but some roles are just not quite 'Gingery' in nature...
I have seen a few Harlow movies as of late, for whatever reason... I guess I see an actress in one, and go check out some of her other ones... 'Dinner at Eight' is one I need to 're-visit' (saw it a good while back)... but just watched 'Platinum Blonde' and 'Libeled Lady'... she was nice in both... I kinda like her style, but there's an inevitable comparison in my mind to Ginger, which isn't fair to Jean... obviously.
Hang in there with the 30's 'time warp'...you do a great job keeping up with it...I have enough trouble with the 'real-time' calendar! :-]

  9. The Red Haired Woman? Probably the most ill-behaved leading character I ever saw. Well, I saw it on YouTube and I was really shocked!

    "Harlow, Jean (Red-Headed Woman)"

Under that title you find it on YouTube.

But it seems the real Harlow wasn't so very much different from Ginger: Also member of Christian Science, as her mother too!
The poor girl died too early .... uremia .... in such case doctors couldn't help at that time .... very, very sad story.

  10. That would be so much fun to visit Ginger's birthplace!!!
I'm working on some new posts...still trying to get back on track after the holidays. The comments are finally working on my blog btw. Lol.

  11. That's so cool if you go to Independance! It must me so thrilling to see Ginger's birth place, like when you see an historical monument!

    ReplyDelete
  12. i'm hoping to be in that sort of area around that time, was thinking about going chatsworth to pay respects for Ginger's birthday but if the chance to meet other Ginger fans was available i'd happily go to Independence instead!!! i don't meet many in England :-(

  13. ALD: Well, maybe one day I can sit down and figure out how to 'produce' some cool media stuff...I am JUST old enough to be 'under the radar' with a lot of the current software methods...when I took 'computer' in high school, the 'monitors' were small black and white TVs, and you 'backed up' info on a audio cassette tape... and 'windows' was still just a glimmer in Bill Gates eye...

CS: Well, now you have piqued my curiosity...I will check it out, just to see how vile this Red-haired woman gets! Just curious, mind you... :-] I forgot that Jean and her Ma were Christian Scientists also... if the docs even could have helped, not sure if they would have allowed treatment, unfortunately... I'm a bit fuzzy on the beliefs of C.S. - it appears they 'shun' any medical assistance, but I'm not sure to what extent...

PG - glad to be able to comment!!! I will hopefully get going here soon on some posts... just want to do 'quality' posts... not that the subject matter ever has any problem, of course...I just want the posts to be formatted properly and cool...

Camille - Hopefully it will work out - if not exactly on Ginger's birthday, at least sometime this summer! Honestly, not too much to the house - it's quite small - but I will try to take a reel of photos, and try to match up things Ginger describes in her book... there are also a few houses she lived in Kansas City - guess I need to unt those down as well, eh? BTW - if any of you G-ologists out there remember those addresses for the KC houses, it would be appreciated... :-)

F&G-M: Well, one of these years I am going to make it to the West Coast and do the 'GingerTrail', from her houses, to wherever RKO studios are, to the footprints / star walk, etc., and yes, even to Chatsworth Memorial. Would also try to get to Oregon (well, I REALLY want to drive the 'Pacific Coast Highway) and see 'Rogers Rogue River Ranch' if possible.
Hope you can make it to Independence - if I do make it, wonder if anyone else will be there... hmmm...

    KIG, y'all!

  14. last year i went from new york where i visited all the theatres that fred and adele performed in and where ginger did girl crazy and top speed, paid respects to vernon and irene castle etc then took the train to los angeles via Fort Worth then did hollywood walk of fame, visited chatsworth etc and did as much as one can do on foot and on crutches! this year i'm hoping to visit Omaha and Independence and see the other side! but would be great if had opportunity to meet other Ginger fans, would make the trip even more special :-)

    ReplyDelete
  15. That's so exciting!! I can't wait to hear all about it when you go! I hope you take lots of pictures when you do!

    ReplyDelete
  16. F&G-M: I thought about New York - closest I have been to there is Baltimore... but yes it would be SO cool to 'trace the footsteps', as it were, of where Ginger performed and lived.
I HAVE been to Fort Worth, but that was before I was a 'total' Gingerologist, unfortunately...
Well, we haven't set up specifics YET, but chances are pretty good we will be there on 07/16/11...it's just too 'opportunistic' to pass up... now, is Omaha significant for Ginger? If so, I have honestly missed it... but would be cool to go there, anyway! I pretty much dig traveling anyplace, just to see and understand different areas of the country!

Sally: Well, it's pretty big on my agenda...should be able to pan out, but... if the folks we would stay with have something else cooking, well, that would be a 'hiccup'... but hopefully no problems... and yes, I will take MONDO pics, and probably some video if I get one of those new recorders...ours is around 10 years old...ya still use those little tapes for it... dinosaur city, to be sure...
Anyway, the trek will MOST definitely be documented for posterity, and above all, for Gingerology!! :-]

  17. Red Haired Woman: I got to admit, I don't know the ending. It might be morally satisfying, if she finally changes her behavior.... Loretta Young's character does in BORN TO BE BAD. But well, she wasn't that weird. Just a 22 years old girl on the wrong track.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Omaha is Fred's birthplace so its all related really!! I was thinking also of possibly going to Medford, Oregon for Ginger's birthday but the Amtrak website isn't being to helpful about how one could get there from LA so it looks like it's a choice between Independence and Chatsworth. Gotta choose soon though as have to sort rail passes!

    ReplyDelete
  19. CS: Well, now I am in 'full Ginger' mode for the reviews... these will end up taking pretty much the whole year - I am not going to 'rush them out' just to meet a deadline - I want to do them in the proper manner... but at least now I have the 'template' down as to what will be involved in the post. AND, as you may have noticed from the 2-4-11 post, I have learned how to do 'screen captures' for movies...VERY cool -not the BEST quality images, but enough to 'get the picture' (bah-dump-dah) :-) But I will squeeze in Red-headed Woman SOMEWHERE...heck, I still have 'The More the Merrier' to watch from Netfilx...sounds like a good one for tonight!
    Hope all is well, CS!

F&G-M: Oh yes - should have remembered that about Omaha! It's pretty cool how they both were born and raised in the 'Heartland' of America...
I would LOVE to go to Oregon to see the '4R Ranch', or whatever it is called now...and the Ginger Rogers Craterian Theater. I would like to ultimately do the 'GingerTour' in La-Hollywood, then drive up the Pacific Coast Highway to Oregon... sounds pretty awesome to me!
Well, good luck with the arrangements, F&G-M!
