...yeah, y'all have seen that pic a few times...still one of my faves! And it's especially appropriate for celebrating good things - and August 12th is a definite 'good thing' happening over at Turner Classic Movies, as they devote the entire day to some of Ginger's best films! Here's the schedule - keep in mind all times are Eastern...plan accordingly, y'all:
...we've touched on this day on and off for a while, but now that it is 'in stone' (hopefully), this will be a great day to kick back and catch some of Ginger's best films...all day long! And, it is also a great day for 'new Gingerologists' to record some titles they may need...these being shown are ALL essentials, no doubt... if I had to pick one that is 'the least' Gingery, it's probably "Week-end at the Waldorf", simply because it has three or four tales being told throughout the proceedings...but Miss Irene Malvern is an AWESOME Ginger character...so yeah, it's required viewing! Honestly, if they could 'loan out' Roxie Hart from Fox for this day, this could be a dang near perfect lineup! Kinda glad to see that "Gold Diggers of '33" was left out...honestly, it's a cool movie, but once ya get thru the first five minutes, the GingerFactor is pretty much nil... in other words, it really isn't Ginger's film at all... "42nd Street", on the other hand, DOES have Gingery goodness throughout...well, y'all know all of that...
...nuff said, y'all...
WELL, hope y'all are able to catch a few of these films, at least, even if you've seen them umpteen times...there's just SOMETHING extra cool about watching them being aired on network television... AND, BTW, this post right cheer is the first one compiled on my NEW laptop...well, I've had it for a few months now, but...finally transferring all Ginger Stuff to it... as my old computer is really falling apart...the monitor died, so I have a 20th-Century era CRT monitor anchoring down one end of the table here... NOW, while I was in the midst of burning a film on DVD, the DVD burner died, and won't open... so... it's looking kinda bleak for the old box...
I'll post again in a day or two with some more Gingery stuff...promise. Stay tuned, y'all...and KIG, natch!!!

I'll be interested if they have any neat "bumpers" !(little segments between the films)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I know there were a bunch of Ginger movies on the 12th, but I didn't know it was the WHOLE DAY! That's so awesome! I wonder why they decided to pick August 12th?
ReplyDeleteI've seen all these movies, but I'm going to secretly set one to record, and try to maybe watch one live on tv. ;)
Have a awesome day!
Ron - good point - would be nice to see some 'background' info, even if we all already know it... they could save a lot of effort by just contacting US for info gathering, right? If Robert Osbourne has anything to do with it, he'll have some 'blurbs' about her, as he is a pretty big Ginger fan.
ReplyDeleteGF - not sure if there's anything 'special' about 8/12 regarding Ginger... not much from 'this day in G-ology'...well, Henry Fonda died that day, who Ginger starred with (somewhat briefly) in 'Tales of Manhattan'...and of course, they 'double dated' a few times, Ginger and Jimmy Stewart, and Fonda and Lucy...
but, probably just the 'general programming' deal...would have been cool to have it on 7/16, tho...
I will be out of town most likely that day...but may catch one here or there...
KIG, y'all!

Maybe the 12th isn't as significant as TCM choosing a Sunday so more people will have the chance to tune in ALL day! I'm disappointed that 42nd street is at 8pm. That is the prime of prime time on the east coast so why not have Swing Time in that slot? Better for the west coasters, I guess, but overall VERY GINGERY :)
ReplyDelete...it is nice that they chose the weekend...gives folks a shot to record ones they need... actually, I just got 'hooked up' with DVR cable boxes throughout the house...hmmm...may just set those puppies to 'full steam' for 8/12...it's always good to have Ginger 'on demand', right? :-]
Delete...well, I think that 42nd Street could have been subbed with another 'more Gingery' feature...but, she DOES have a fair role in it...would seem like Kitty would get the 'prime spot', tho, I concur...
oh, well...just glad they are breaking out the goods, right?
KIG, 'e'!

All needs now is for TCM UK to follow suit, (ah wait a flying pig) nearest we seem to be getting is 'Spencer's Mountain' with Henry Fonda.. although there's a few musicals showing there's no Ginger or Fred for that matter, only 'My Fair Lady', The Wizard of Oz' (which i wouldn't mind seeing) and 'The King and I', followed a few hours later by 'Anna and the King of Siam' :) i'd love it if could get the US TCM over here!
ReplyDelete...heh heh...I remember complaining about TCM 'America' and how TCM Canada was showing more Gingerfilms a few years back... things tend to cycle, I guess...it WOULD seem that at least the GandF films would be in fair rotation on TCM UK, tho... I'm not sure why we can't get ALL the TCMs - it would be nice to have 3-4 channels of classics to pick from!
DeleteHey, we DO get BBC 'America' now...which is cool...just wondering what the difference is... so far I've seen 'AbFab' a few times, and 'TopGear'...
Well, hope all is well over there with the Olympics! it's pretty awesome...when it was in Atlanta, we hosted some prelim soccer (sorry...futbol) matches here, which all sold out...didn't go, which was a mistake... hope you got(get) to attend some events!!!
KIG, Kat!!!
