...Weird stuff from L.A. (Sorry, Lauren)...

...I am not a fan of 'South Park' at all - and this reinforces that fact - the show had some episode where they declared it 'Kick a Ginger Day' ('ginger' is evidently a 'derogatory' name for red-headed folks...???) - well, these kids actually organized this at their school in L.A., and the following link describes the results...pretty sad state of affairs:

www.ktla.com/news/landing/ktla-ginger-beating,0,999291.story

...of course, I guess this sick story is at best 'coincidental' to the topic of Our Miss Ginger, but my mom actually told me about this (she wanted me to post about it, so...here you go, Ma...), and she was mad they used the term 'Ginger' to mean someone who is weak, and more specifically, redheaded folks who are 'profiled' as being weak, which is quite ignorant, IMHO... Well, Ginger was definitely a redhead, but was DEFINITELY not weak... nope.

Anyway, just an 'FYI' deal, which really again has little to do with VKM...

AAANNDDD, a big 'G-ology' welcome to our newest follower (#20!!!), 'Pink Champagne'!!! Neat 'handle'! ...Ginger was a 'tee-totaller', but if she would have drunk anything, it would have most definitely been pink champagne for 'Pinky'!!! Please feel free to comment on anything posted, as we like to 'jaw' on here!!! Glad to have you aboard!!!

  1. YIKES! I never knew that actually went down. I've only seen South Park on three occasions, and two of them happened to be the same episode - the ginger episode! (The other one was them trying to save baby cows from being slaughtered for veal.)
Yeah, a ginger is a red-head. I don't know if people actually call others 'gingers' in person... at least I've never heard someone use it. Then again, I don't really know many red-heads. If any.
How cute that your mom is helping you out with post ideas. :)

  2. I've only ever heard "ginger" being used to mean red-head in Britain, and I never got the vibe that they meant it in a degrogatory way, it's just the word they use. I guess I'm behind the times...

I haven't seen that particular episode, but it's a shame that those kids thought of doing that based on the show.

  3. OH YEAH. Huey, if you tried to watch Doctor Who, you would see "ginger" mentioned. I totally forgot about that.

  4. ...the only other 'Ginger' I can think of off-hand is a dude named Ginger Baker, who was the drummer for the rock band Cream - Eric Clapton's original group (well, after he left the Yardbirds...but that's another story... :-] ) And Ginger Baker was quite the drummer, which would not classify him as 'weak'...
Oh - also...if you Google 'Ginger', it pulls up some...er... 'unwholesome' ladies named Ginger...but I am not gonna delve any further into that, for sure...

  5. I don't think it's against people named Ginger, it's ginger without the capital G. Who knows where it came from, since red hair isn't ginger-coloured.

  6. Well, I broke out Webster's, just to figure this out... actually, there is one of the definitions what says 'A tawny, sandy, or reddish-brown color.' So maybe that is it.
The word 'gingerly' means 'In a cautious, careful, or reluctant manner.'
And also, the word 'gingery' is 'having the reddish-brown color of ginger.'
The word "Gingerology" is not in there...yet.

  8. ...is that Dr Who? I read that the series is 'wrapping up' here pretty soon... it's been on quite a while, since I think I was in high school when I saw a few of them...
