...On the Seventh Day of GINGER... ...on GINGEROLOGY...

...SEVEN Swans a-Swimming...

Yeah, Ginger is a swan...and can she SWIM!!!
...as Ginger's Cabana Boy in Perpetuity, it's reassuring to know that Ginger's an Aqua Girl!

...and HERE'S one I've never seen, from the Jantzen blog/site... Ginger and Fred modeling swimsuits! Of course, they should have Ginger as the 'main pic'...DUH......

Onward to the EIGHTH day... as we inch closer to the big day... and no, I'm NOT talking about the Star Wars Premiere... which just happened anyway - hope anyone who saw it had fun - I saw the ORIGINAL back in 1977, and the next two... but will probably let this one marinate awhile before viewing it... hmmm....wonder what Ginger thought about Star Wars?

ANYway, until tomorrow...

May the Gingery Force be with you!!!

...On the Sixth Day of GINGER... ...on GINGEROLOGY...

SIX years of GINGEROLOGY!!!
...when I started this blog on Independence Day Weekend of 2009, I was just hunting around for 'avenues' as to how to 'obtain' GingerFilms, as this was before WB Archives got rolling... and indeed, lots of GingerFilms were found along the way... but something ELSE very cool happened... I discovered there were quite a few Ginger Rogers fans throughout the WORLD... and thus the Tribe of Gingerologists were founded!

The blog that begat Gingerology was... Finding Ginger... from a nice young English lass named BethRose... who was blogging about the EXACT SAME THING I was doing... looking for Ginger Rogers films... so, we, along with a few other folks, set up blogs and 'banded together' so to speak, in search for GingerFilms.  We discovered, er...'avenues' where GingerFilms were available, and pretty much poked big ol' holes thru our computers' firewalls in order to absorb all that Gingery goodness... I think I 'obtained' about 30 or so GingerFilms in this 'process'...heck, I even 'contributed' a few GingerFilms and $$$ to the...er, 'process'.
...only a select few will understand that bit above this...

ANYway, here we are today, and it's great to still be involved in all things Ginger.... it seems most of that 'First Generation' of G-ologists, as well as the 'Second Generation', have moved on for whatever reason, especially the young 'uns who moved into college... things move fast in cyberspace, and folks jump into other interests... fair enough. But y'know, Ginger will ALWAYS be a part of me, just... BECAUSE.
Not sure how much longer Blogger will even be around, as obviously FaceBook has supplanted it quite completely, since in the final analysis, folks have only so many hours in the day, and FB is a good bit quicker 'conduit' to get info and thoughts conveyed to a LOT of people fast... with a LOT more interaction... in fact, I'm kicking around setting up a Gingerology group on FB, even tho we have at least a few 'Ginger Groups' already... it's a pending thing, y'all... heck, I've thought about setting up a true website for Gingerology, but the $$$ per month would be a bit prohibitive, unless ads could help...I don't know...lots of questions there.
But as a bit of 'blast from the Past', here is the actual post where I 're-name' the blog to... GINGEROLOGY!!! (also a reference to my budding 'GingereBay' saga, which was quite...um... heavy, financially speaking... I've refrained from eBay for quite awhile now, so... hm...)

Post 4: Tuesday, August 4, 2009

Well, I think I may have it going here...

I finally got a few things sorted out on this site - hopefully will have a bit more 'meat' to it... First of all, changed the name - 'jwhueyblog' really didn't mean anything - actually, the only reason I originally set up a blog was to be able to post on Beth's 'Finding Ginger' site!
Anyway, 'Gingerology' sounds a bit more interesting... since we all are 'searching and digging' for those Ginger movies which, for some asinine reason, are NOT on DVD (I'm still waiting for the 75-DVD Box Set with all her movies, digitally remastered, of course, loaded with extra features, rare outtakes, audio commentary, etc., along with the complete audio recordings of VKM, digitally remastered to pristine condition... and also containing a 'coffee table'-size 400-page photo book... has anyone heard if they are getting it out by this Christmas this year?? :-O ...well, one can hope, I guess.)
ANYWAY, I also added a list of my 'Ginger Search' travails, VKM movies I have possession of in one form or more... I have plowed through eBay as of late, and really bolstered the list... everything received so far has been in pretty fair shape...the only thing is, be quick about it... there was a VHS of 'Lady in the Dark' (quickly becoming one of my favorites, as seen on YT), and I was going to bid on it or whatever, but just didn't do it quick enough. But stuff is constantly changing on there, so it's worth messing with - and typically the prices are reasonable.
SO, hopefully that gives y'all a bit of 'update' on where Gingerology is headed... I will put my long-winded observations on here, but still faithfully post on Beth's cool site!
Please feel free to reply, and hope you 'jump on' this blog, along with others concerning VKM!!!
Thanks, JW

Well, in closing, thanks for supporting G-ology, y'all... and I plan on cranking out WAYYYYY more posts in 2016 than I did this past year... yupyupyup!

...speaking of which... the second half of this exercise begins tomorrow with installment SEVEN!!!

Until then...

KIG!!!

...On the Fifth Day of GINGER... ...on GINGEROLOGY...

...FIVE... Golden... Rings...
...from five rotten Gooberheads!
...Run, Ginger RUN!!!

...it's pretty well documented how I really loathe Ginger's five ex-husbands... some more than others... so - generally, here they are in the order I think Ginger would rank them... ...feel free to share a dissenting view...
1. Lew Ayres - Ginger has a chapter in her bio regarding the courtship between the two... it's entitled, "Meeting My Dream Man"... that pretty much makes this particular gooberhead the 'Trump' of the gooberheads... take that HOWever you wish...

2. Jacques Bergerac - Ginger has another chapter in her bio entitled, "I Love Paris!" ...Monsieur Berg here was her personal tour guide thru the City of Light... as a result, he is the 'Cruz' of the Gooberhead contest...

...since we're somehow comparing Ginger's ex-hubs to 2016 Republican Presidential Candidates, let's say that the bottom three of the pack are the dudes who are typically in the 'preliminary debate' prior to the big boys hitting the stage... who can be sorted out however you like, but I'll go with this order:

3. Jack Briggs - In some ways, he was the best of the bunch... he served his country, something Lew didn't do... I'll leave that for y'all to sort out... he may have been the most appreciative of Ginger, but in the end went the way of the Gooberheads, for some insane reason...

4. William Marshall - the dude Ginger was hitched to the longest seemed to be OK for a bit, but his incessant imbibing was too much... ...add to the fact he was the mastermind behind the worst film Ginger ever had to suffer through (although I always dug this pick of them for the stage version of "Bell, Book and Candle"), and he is planted just above GH#5, who is of course...

5. Jack Culpepper - Ginger's first husband was the least of them...of course they married too young... sometimes it's cool, sometimes it isn't... ...in fact, I have yet to find a pic of the two together - the closest thing I have is the copy of the marriage license from NOLA I obtained a few years back...Pepper was the only one of the five who didn't have a pic in her bio, which tells you all you need to know...

...ok, that wraps up a FIFTH of GINGER... onward!!!

Tomorrow hits the HALFWAY point with... the SIXTH day... yupyupyup...

Until then...

KIG, Y'ALL!!!

...On the Fourth Day of GINGER... ...on GINGEROLOGY...

...FOUR Calling 'birds'...so to speak...

It's pretty obvious that Ginger had MANY suitors... here's four of 'em...

...Howard Hughes, millionaire... he owned a mansion and a yacht... well, a big ol' wooden plane/boat that ultimately became a yacht of sorts... ANYway, he also wooed quite a few ladies through the years, and Ginger was one... they were actually engaged, but... he channeled his inner gooberhead and kept 'playing the field', as it were... probably the best thing that ever 'didn't happen' to Ginger... dude was a genius, but... we geniuses sometimes tend to fritz out after awhile and that REALLY happened to the nth degree with Mr. Hughes.... BTW, for those who are unaware, I'm Hu, short for my middle name of Hughes... yeah, I'm still waiting for my inheritance check in the mail from Crazy Ol' Unk Howie...

...George Stevens, director/producer... Ginger first encountered Mr. Stevens on the set of Swing Time... she loved his caring style for her, a stark contrast to the 'usual' director of the Ginger and Fred joints, Mark Sandrich... so the relationship eventually morphed into something a good bit more... but alas, both parties were married at the time (Ginger and Lew were separated), so... yupyupyup. They always had page 62... (see Ginger's bio for more info...although there's not a lot of 'detail' regarding her relationship with Stevens, which probably indicates it was a pretty special one...)

...Mervyn LeRoy, Director... was a 'general acquaintance' of Ginger, and he got Ginger into the film 42nd Street, which was a great feather in her cap at the time... Gold Diggers of 1933 also was a Merv joint for Mr. Warner... Merv more or less introduced Ginger to Hughes... interesting. LeRoy must have picked up on Howie's interest in Ginger, as Merv out of nowhere married some other dame... I think HH must have gotten Merv to 'defer', as it were... hey, money talks, but...brother, you don't HAVE enough money to make me walk away from Ginger... no, you DON'T...

...Greg Bautzer, Prominent Hollywood Attorney...Dated Ging after she broke up with Briggs (Gooberhead Hubby #3)... this cat seemed to meet most of the requirements to hang with our girl, including being a great dancer, great tennis player, and had a great personality Ginger dug... but alas... Ginger had made the fateful trip to Paris during their relationship and met future Gooberhead Hubby #4 (Bergerac), who did win her heart more convincingly than Mr. Bautzer here... but I don't feel TOO sorry for this dude, as he evidently had quite a few 'options', lady-wise... ah, life in Hollywood...

Well, the moral is Ginger was a VERY bright light-bulb in her day, most likely somewhat well-behaved (although that's truly none of our business, right? ;-) )... while this post kinda depresses me in the sense that ol' Huey can't hold a candle to ANY of these dudes, it IS good to know that Ginger had her pick of them, even though she unfortunately didn't ever find the right one...

OK, with that, we'll see ya tomorrow with the FIFTH day of GINGER...

Until then,

KIG!

...On the Third Day of GINGER... ...on GINGEROLOGY...

...a TRIPLE threat!!!
...singing, dancing, acting... Ginger has always been described as one who could perform VERY well in all three capacities... of course, this blogger has built his entire blogging CAREER on that very accurate fact!
...here's just a few of my faves (of course, any SECOND of Ginger singing, dancing, and/or acting are my faves...duuuuuuuh...)
...Storm Warning... an 'uncomfortable' film in the subject matter department, but Ginger really shines in it, with pretty dramatic turns throughout... early 50s Ginger should have been in a LOT more films...

...Sitting Pretty... Have You Ever Seen a Dream Walking, INDEED... if Ginger was any more breathtaking in this scene, she might have just done ol' Hu in when he first saw it... but WHAT a way to go, right? ;-)

...Follow The Fleet... Ginger gets a 'solo' routine, albeit a bit 'submarined' by Freddie... Ginger's gracefulness shines through, even in a hoofin' exercise... pure gold, y'all...

...and speaking of gold... perhaps...just PERHAPS, my all-time fave moment of GingerFilm occurs at the opening of Gold Diggers of 1933, when Ginger plows into the standard tune of hope, "We're in the Money"... if someone asks me why I'm a Gingerologist, I just show them this clip...

...as Carlotta in the Noir "Black Widow"... a surprising yet quite effective role for our girl... I'm not the world's largest 'film noir' fan, but it's cool that Ginger had a few in her repertoire (Tight Spot also qualifies)...

Roxie... Roxie... Roxie... the Charleston never had a chance... nuff said...

...Honey Hale!!! In Flying down to Rio, Ginger kicked of her partnership with Fred, but she had some nice camera time on her own, most notably singing "Music Makes Me"... yupyupyup...

...as Dolley Madison, Ginger was no doubt a Magnificent Doll... the period costumes were perfect... and yeah, folks say there are historical 'inaccuracies' throughout it, but no matter... it still makes for a cool film which Ginger shines SO brightly...

...Stage Door is one of those films where Ginger could do a little song and dance, a little comedic satire, and a bit of drama... thus one of my fave GingerFilms!  Ginger's outfit here is SO cool...

...Well, of course, there are SO many more examples of how multi-faceted Ginger was... didn't even really touch on her very successful stage career pre- and post-films... and of course her television appearances... recordings... you name it!

Well, tomorrow brings in the FOURTH day, which may be of interest to the ladies in the crowd (which is most of y'all ;-) ) ... so, until then...

KIG!
