In Rememberance...

...of Ginger, who left this world into the Great Beyond fifteen years ago, on April 25, 1995... always a sad day, but one should just think of all the great moments she gave us to remember her by, and how cool it is there are so many that were documented and still available... I know she is just dancing away somewhere out there, dressed to the nines and radiant as ever... something tells me that although she is at peace, she is probably not resting, if I know her! She is most likely working out new routines with Fred! :-]

I remember I was at my future wife's apartment... I was under the weather, and instead of going out to eat and whatever, we just stayed there and watched the news, when they talked about VKM's death... I actually only knew a small amount about Ginger at the time, but enough to know she was a pretty cool lady, and that I thought she was great in the few movies I saw her in up until then... guess my Ginger interest has increased a bit since then!

Well, sorry about another sad post, y'all; also no pics again (just couldn't come up with one for this situation, really) but this post is obviously mandatory, although sad...

I am cooking up some things to post soon, so have patience, fellow G-ologists! Hope everyone made makes it through the big storm rolling through the Eastern U.S.

Until Then - Keep It Gingery...

  1. I remember. I was in college and the news made the front page of the local newspapers the next day. Rest in Peace.

  2. I just read the joyful edition about Camille's sight on April 25 and I was happy. It's so charming: She saw Ginger the first time and >BAM!< Ginger 'killed' her right away. Now I see, YOUR* love to Ginger is constantly growing over decades. That's also very beautiful, but... Say, where does that end?

In my case it must have been „Let Yourself Go“. I think Ginger 'killed' me on the spot with that number. The boys in my high school band felt different: We had started with 30s swing but at that time they unfortunately got more and more into bebop. Our guitarist wouldn't let me sing „Let Yourself Go“. So you better hire a banjo player, because he can't change to bebop.

    * They call you Hoey, is that you? Well, this sounds more like a name and quite personal.

  3. Until January 2009 I only knew Ginger as Fred's dance partner and didn't have any desire to see those movies. It took a month of reading comments posted by a Ginger lover in a site shoutbox to download one of the Ginger-Fred movies and see what all the hubbub was about. I still remember: it was Shall We Dance. I started watching it and thought "OH WOW! No wonder he's so taken by her." I was hooked at first sight. I got the whole Ginger/Fred set and then moved on to all the rest of her movies, minus those elusive three. So though this is a sad day to commemorate, it also makes us reflect on a truly talented lady who could do it all. A 21 gun salute to you, Ginger, for the wonderful entertainment you brought us.

  4. I don't remember who's blog I read it on, but someone said (paraphrased of course), in reference to Ginger, "What other classic actress still has such a huge following?" And gaining more all the time. Pretty much sums up Ginger's awesome legacy. I feel so blessed to have been a part of it!

  5. I was reading Entertainment Weekly the week Sandra Bullock broke out with "While You Were Sleeping." On the two pages before that lead article was Ginger's obit...I've saved that issue just for that odd linking.

  7. Thanks to all for sharing their thoughts and stories... the great thing is, Ginger's 99th birthday is coming up soon... stay tuned!

Ron - I went to your site - am now a follower (killer 'Dr. Strangelove' Lego, BTW...) - not clear as to 'e-mail thru the blog'... mine is jwhuey67@charter.net... thanks! VKMfan

  8. Does anyone know what on earth the post directly above mine is supposed to be? I've seen such things on other blogs, too, and have always wondered.

  9. Fioraon...bunch of gobbledy-gook, eh? It must be some type of spam... I typically delete them in short order... if you translate them, they are usually a 'fortune cookie' type saying... evidently not too harmful or anything... but getting them still feels a bit like whistling thru the graveyard, right? :-'

  10. Hahahaha. I see why you couldn't very well delete this particular one. Your loyal followers would take offense at a perceived "Huey attack" and hunt me down and shoot me like a dog.

In regard to this type of spam I don't see the purpose unless it is to annoy. Nobody can read it and virtually nobody will bother to translate.

  11. Do you actually know "Find a Grave"? Ginger is there too and anybody can leave a flower and note:

I did my final Jean-order today. Now I'm supposed to watch my bank account carefully ('cause I bought too many DVDs these weeks). But after my financial recovery I'll need some advice:
Musthave Ginger-DVDs of the 30s - above all fore a singer and dancer.

I always learned by watching Ginger, she's just my idol/master/teacher. Jean is something else, kind of dead sister.

I'm always asking myself: what is a "fan"? I don't feel like a "fan". But an idol is even more as I guess: I always have the feeling I should thank her. But how?

    Maybe with pink flowers ...

  12. Fioraon...just keeping it there for 'visual aid'... but actually, a lot of my posts and comments ramble on quite incoherently, and would also fall in the 'what is this post/comment supposed to be?' category... but hopefully I am becoming a bit more concise over time... hope you are doing well! I will cruise over to the 'G' in a few to make sure all is well...

CS - Great! Glad to hear you are 'beefing up' your Jean collection!
Well, I have seen Ginger's grave site on the web, anyway...a sad but 'obligatory' piece of Gingerology one must know of...
as for Ginger movies in the 30's... well, not counting GandF, of course... just not many dancing roles for Ginger... she played a dancer quite a few times, and did hoof it up a bit, but really prior to 'Rio', only the 'In the Money' routine in GoldDiggers and a few scenes in 42nd Street we see Ginger dancing at any length...

BTW - still looking for the Ginger Rogers Rose... I know NOTHING of horticulture, but would love to have that particular variety of rose... my Aunt and Uncle are pretty avid Rose Growers, strangely enough, and have never heard of the Ginger Rogers rose... obviously it is pink :-) maybe one day I could hunt it down.

  13. If the rose is donated on the internet, one could have changed the colour of a common rose to the exact Ginger-Pink before. Paint.ms is not so hot, but I use the Linux-paint and there are a lot of possibilities. People who work with Adobe perhaps have even more possibilities.

It sounds perhaps a bit crazy, but THIS could be a fascinating item of Gingerology. - The question is, dearest Gingerologist: What exact IS Ginger's pink - I certainly mean in RGB. If we can find only one thing (whatever it is), that undoubtedly is Ginger's pink, we could fix it just like that: download, or screenshot, or photographic shot in reality, open in Paint.ms and even there we can analyse it easily.

    R ___ G ___ B ___

This is one of those crazy ideas that awake me at once. Ginger would be pleased, wouldn't she? She wasn't a dull girl at all. And why shouldn't we please Ginger with things that would have pleased her on earth? - Those girls aren't just dead to me ...

As to Jean: Well, the flowers mustn't be picked or cut off - Jean didn't like that, she objected if someone presented her flowers. She wanted people to let them be there where they could grow.
