IT'S OFFICIAL...GINGER ROGERS IS...

...TCM's Star of the Month for March!!!

...as a result, there are many new movies listed for that month that were heretofore not noted on their schedule...I will hopefully sort them out and get them on the 'Big Board' here shortly... Looks like Wednesdays will be the 'Ginger Nights'. This is a great opportunity to bolster your VKM collection, so BE PREPARED!!!

(A quite estatic) VKMfan

UPDATE...After sorting out the schedule...they are presenting 37 Ginger Rogers movies in the month of March...folks, that's over half of her 'catalogue'...MAJOR, MAJOR kudos, props, accolades, and whatever other good stuff you can think of, to TCM for this BIG TIME scheduling of Miss Rogers!!!

  3. Whew! My DVR is going to be BUSY! Luckily I have about 15 of these on DVD already (I know I know ONLY 15!!!!???)

  4. Are they playing Hat Check Girl?

  5. OMG!!!!! *does happy dance*

Many early movies I'll be able to get, and some I already have recorded on VHS but the tapes are in bad condition so I can now re-record. The downside: several are early early in the morning or middle of the night, and I discovered, after trying to set my VCR to record Finishing School last week that my old VCR won't allow me to program a 3-digit channel number to record at a specified time, and TCM here is #308. So I had to get up at 5:00 am to hit record and go back to bed, lol! March will be a lack of sleep month it looks like, but worth it! :)

  6. LOL. Beth you have them all don't you? You can watch them in "real time" just follow the schedule and stick in the DVD! Maybe we should figure out how to create torrents or something for our friends so they can see them?

  7. @ Katie: Rapidshare is the way to go. Esp in college.
Hey Beth! At this big week 0 meeting at the beginning of school they talked about how it's like a $3,000 fine for downloading illegally, so I was testing the waters and RS with jDownloader works just fine.

  8. Yes! Pink is awesome lol!! Thanks for stopping by. It's very cool Ginger will be featured for March on TCM. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!

  9. Glad to be the bearer of great news, y'all!!!

I wish those who do NOT have TCM could get it... just not sure why it isn't more 'widely distributed'... heck, a 'streaming' deal from the TCM website would be great, like a 'pay-per-view' deal, working with the schedule! Lots of potential for $$$, Mr. Ted, if you are reading this... :-)

Katie - Patience! this time less than two years ago, I had ZERO Ginger movies...now just down to one...you will compile them at an alarming rate, I assure you!

Gingerella - It's good to hear that someone still uses the VCR to record...people look at me and almost snicker when I make a purchase of a 'multi-pack' of VHS tapes... but hey, by any means necessary... and even tho mine is programmable, I STILL wake up whenever it is supposed to start recording, just to make sure... I also go back two or three times to make sure the car doors lock...is that compulsive behavior???

    Lauren - speaking of the 'one', nope, no Hat Check Girl...the Schedule is on the right...think all those are 'accounted for' by you, but it is cool to see them 'broadcast' on television... oh, BTW...what did you mean by 'testing the waters'??? :-}

SCD - hope your weekend is going swimmingly!!! Thanks for your support!

  13. Update- thanks to Youtube and Gormogon and Im up to 31!

I also dug up lots of Ginger radio shows thanks to this website - all free!

    http://www.dumb.com/oldtimeradio/

Heres a list of Ginger's radio appearances
    http://www.old-time.com/archivedbbs/mainbbs/849.htm

    Enjoy!

PS has anyone ever seen Hollywood The Golden Years: The RKO story? One whole part is dedicated to the Fred and Ginger films and the following part is about Women in Hollywood focusing heavily on Ginger Rogers and Katharine Hepburn (of course leading up to Stage Door)

  14. Katie - glad you are getting more VKM under your belt! Yeah, 'TC' has a bit too many 'undertones' in it for my tastes...but dang, she is beautiful in it!
And thanks for the radio links - that is really the next 'media' I need to get into... I do have an LP of Ginger on radio 'performing' Kitty Foyle, and the other side has Bette Davis with 'Jezebel'. sad to say I haven't listened to it yet - need to.
Also want to see the RKO story - need to 'obtain' that from somewhere...

Gingyginge...thanks for the kind words - love your site! (along with 300+ others...how cool is THAT?) - keep up the great work!

Lauren - that sounds ok - just making sure everything is kosher for you! :-]

  15. VKM let me see if I can make that available to you....I think I got it from Gormogon but it took a couple of days. Its really nothing we havent heard before but its fun to hear it from Fred, Ginger, Hermes Pan and the other people that were there. They do give Fred A LOT of the credit for the team but Ginger certainly holds her own in her interview parts.

Isnt it amazing what you can find through Google? I also found some cool magazine articles as well!

  16. ...well, I am on the 'G' as well, so I need to go over there and 'nab' it! Seems like they would show that on TCM or somewhere... but thanks for the info - it is definitely 'required' G-ology material!

  17. Huey,

If you want the RKO documentaries and the torrent looks slow, I've uploaded them to the Gormogon rapidshare section in the forum, too.

  18. Thanks, Lady Fioraon! I will check it out over the weekend...in theory, anyway... seems like we have more stuff going on over the weekend than during the week...

  19. OMGGGGGGG March is my birthday month. Happy Birthday to me from TCM!

  20. ...cool, Maggie! It's my wife's b'day month, too, but she isn't quite as 'enthusiastic' about the GingerFest... she tries, tho...she just is not a big movie person...strangely enough, neither was I until I started delving into Ginger's movies...which serve as a 'springboard' into other movies by other folks... pretty neat!
BTW...Keep on hashing out the 'questionable' Ginger pics for us all! We need the TRUTH! :-)

  21. That's great!
Too bad that I've not TCM :(

  22. Sorry Camille...

It really is frustrating to me that so many folks do NOT have TCM! It is really worth it...see, I thought that DirectTV or Dish Network would have TCM as one of their 'base' channels... I have cable, and have always had TCM...since I am near 'Turnerville' (i.e., Atlanta, GA), I guess I have just taken as fact EVERYONE gets TCM - must not be the case. Of course, if you are in another country, that MIGHT be a bit more understandable...but not any less frustrating!
Again, when the 'TV on computer' thing ever gets totally ironed out, it will hopefully include TCM, for ANYONE with a computer to watch.
    Let's hope it is soon!
    Thanks again for following, Camille!!!

  23. Okay I swear they added more to the list since you fixed it. Or maybe Im just aware of more of them I want to see since I finished her book! Some Ive seen thanks to the G-list but I want copies of them and I really need a good copy of Once Upon A Honeymoon! Ew some of these nights Im going to have to set my DVD recorder on EP mode which I hate doing because it degrades the quality slightly but Im not getting up at 4 AM to switch DVDs! Well...for Ginger it might be worth it :P

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well, they may have...I REALLY wish they would air 'Lady in the Dark', 'Sitting Pretty', and 'Heartbeat'...just need a cleaner copy of each...they may have them, but just working on restoration (hopefully)...'LITD' would seem to be pretty easy to find, being somewhat newer...well, heck, Heartbeat was from '46...
Noticed "First Traveling Saleslady" is included...that is kinda neat, although Ginger uses a voice that...well, is not my favorite...but don't let that sway you, it is a pretty cute movie, IMHO. BTW, the very LAST RKO-Radio movie ever made.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Isnt Heartbeat one of those Public Domain movies or something like Royal Wedding? Unfortunately the copies of those movies around are SO beaten up :(

There used to be a commercial on AMC (when they actually showed movies) where they would show people working to restore films and I was like "I want to do that"...unfortunately I think you have to know stuff about chemistry and stuff. Not me!

Im excited about First Traveling Saleslady just because Ive never seen it. Speaking of a different voice for Ginger I just recently saw Quick Lets Get Married/The Confession....she sounded different in that one too. What weird little movie - Ray Milland and Ginger were the best part though.

    ReplyDelete
  26. ...Maggie is studying to become a 'film restorer' or...hmmm what IS the 'official title' of someone who does that?
Chemistry...you know, out of HS, I was going into Chemical Engineering, until I had to work my tail off to make a 'D' in Chem 111...that steered my direction elsewhere real quick... :-)
It's really cute - has Carol Channing in it as Ginger's 'sidekick'... of course, her voice is 'unusual', so MY theory is Ginger 'altered' her voice to be 'similar' to CC's...
Quick...a very strange one, indeed. Ginger herself describes it as 'a disaster'...The movie itself had a weird plot, what with Ginger playing a (alcoholic) Madam...just out of character for her... and the financial backing for the film was shoddy, delaying its release for over 5 years. Ginger and Ray have the only fair scenes in it, although I DO love Barbara Eden... how can you screw up a movie with Ginger AND Jeannie in it???

    ReplyDelete
  27. This is the one movie made by the company Bill Marshall set up in Jamaica I think too. I liked the scene when Ginger offers Ray a drink and he takes a drink and is like "Oh this is terrible! Havent you got anything better?" and then she looks all guilty and switches glasses with him.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah, an ill-fated venture to say the least... at least they had a cool locale for it... I only saw that one once, or maybe twice - guess I need to watch it again, to catch whatever is neat out of it... Ginger is awesome with just her presence! ...or does that sound kinda...weird???

    ReplyDelete
  29. No I understand - shes one of the few good things in that movie and its not the part or the lines its just Ginger being Ginger!

    ReplyDelete
  30. ...I could honestly just turn the sound down, put on a record, and WATCH Ginger - although her voice (usually) rocks!
...watching Kitty Foyle - that one has 'optimum Ginger voice I love' when she is narrating... LOVE that 'timbre' and 'tone' or whatever other vocalization term you can throw in there...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Great site!
I have a bunch of Ginger's movies on my DVR... can't wait to have a marathon. And one of my favorites is TIGHT SPOT. I love seeing her play such a tough woman.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wow! I am so glad I found this site :) I love Ginger Rogers. I have recently began collecting her movies, so I am a little behind in what I have. But I have seen many of them; Vivacious Lady, Bachelor Mother, Once Upon a Honeymoon, Stage Door, and In Person being among my favorites. She was such a fantastic actress.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hey I have a question if anyone can answer. In Tom, Dick, and Harry when Ginger goes into the second dream sequence it is her, but when she comes out of the dream the woman does not look like her. Am I seeing things or is that a different person for that shot? And if it is a different person, who is it? Thanks for the help because I am driving myself crazy rewinding that scene :)
