Ginger Trivia, Round Two...

Ok, here's the second installment of Ginger Trivia... as before, please comment on any discrepancies, as the sources may or may not be '100%' - although I tried to find at least two different sources for each question...Good Luck! And remember, no peeking! (answers below the Movies List on the right side of the page.)

QUESTION ONE: "Flying Down to Rio" was Fred Astaire's second 'major' motion picture; it was Ginger's _______.

QUESTION TWO: What movie is generally considered as Ginger's favorite as a 'fan', but not one she actually appeared in?

QUESTION THREE: It is pretty obvious that Ginger made more movies for RKO Studios (32) than any other studio; Which studio is in second place as far as Ginger movies go?

QUESTION FOUR: Regarding Question Three, what is the third place studio for Ginger films?

QUESTION FIVE: Pretty easy for VKM buffs, but... What movie did Ginger's Mom, Lela, appear in along side Ginger?

QUESTION SIX: Who was Ginger married to for the shortest of her five marriages?

QUESTION SEVEN: Who was Ginger married to for the longest of her five marriages?

QUESTION EIGHT: Most Gingerologists are quite familiar with the phrase, "Ginger did everything Fred did...backwards and in high heels!" But, who is credited with this phrase, and where did it first appear?

QUESTION NINE: What year was Ginger the highest paid woman in the U.S. ($250,000.00), as well as the 8th-highest paid person overall in the U.S.?

QUESTION TEN: What Ginger outfit from what movie has been (and hopefully still is) on display at the Smithsonian Institute?

  1. I believe the "Jenny" dress is part of a traveling show (at least it has been a couple of times before). They have a cast of performers that wear the costumes and perform whatever was done in them. I would rather see it in the museum though.

  2. Here's something cool I found. These are the smithsonian archival records for Ginger.

There are no dresses listed, so I'm not sure if this searched the entire archives because I know they have the Piccolino dress.

  3. ...That's pretty cool! I was wondering if one could do a search in the Smithsonian website... In Ginger's book, she talks about the 'Jenny' dress to the Smithsonian, but heck, that was probably 40 years ago... there is honestly no telling where it is now.
It would seem like the Smithsonian would keep pretty much everything they 'acquire', but then again, only so much stuff can be stored (although I heard they have like, 10 times more stuff stored than on display!)
Also neat the 'Piccolino' dress is there somewhere... just good to know she is represented there, as well she should be!!!
I am actually headed that way in early November - it's a working gig in Baltimore, so doubt if I will get to D.C....but who knows!
It's amazing how much stuff is out there to sort thru... but we are all after the FACTS, and this is as good of a forum as any, I guess!
Thanks, Maggie, for doing more digging to research this! And, if anything else looks awry, please don't hesitate to point it out!

  5. Well, glad you liked it, Juliette! :-)
I will keep gathering info to make this maybe a weekly? event... I think it is a good exercise, if for no other reason to discuss specifics (like the Smithsonian stuff above!) and separate fact from 'not so much'...and with the folks we have in the 'community' of VKM, there's plenty of knowledge to share! (present company VERY much included!)
Hope you are doing well! Are you set up in school yet? Yeah, I remember college...that distant galaxy far,far away... I GRADUATED in 1992... someone out there please say they were born before that!!! :-]

  6. Speaking of The Piccolino dress at the Smithsonian, I wonder where the feather dress is? That's a dress I'd love to see in real life. It is probably long gone by now though....
Now The picclino one would be great since we know it's there!!!

  7. I heard the Smithsonian has both the feather dress and the piccolino dress but they are both too delicated to display.
Keep these quizzes coming! I always do horribly so it is fun to learn about stuff.
