...than EVAH to the ever-elusive "Roberta" post!
...yes, y'all, I know it's incredible... but look for the 'stats' side of the review (i.e., everything EXCEPT the 'parallel theme' screen cap sequence) in the next day or so... with that 'parallel theme' to follow in a few days after... most of the reviews henceforth will be in this 'multi-post' format... mainly since the 'parallel theme' is getting to be pretty large for these, thus are more easily viewed in their own post...

Hey, guess whut, y'all... Gingerology is sneaking up on 100,000 'hits'!!! Pretty cool to know folks are still checking out this blog for all things Ginger! As such, I am going to make a concerted effort to add features and content... not the least of which will be a Facebook page, dedicated to Gingerology, or whatever derivative name I can get for it... hopefully this will keep folks up on stuff - as I am also going to be setting up more of the 'filmblogs'... and any other Gingery stuff that happens, I can place on there...or at least say, "Hey y'all, guess whut...(sounds familiar...) - I've added this-n-that to G-ology, or, to the 'Roxie Hart' blog, or whatever..." As usual, ANY input as to what YOU would like to see here is VERY much in order... just reply here... AND, I figure FB will give us a 'message board' type of deal, right? Isn't that how it works? hm?

And, ending this post on a sad note... y'all keep south Mississippi and Alabama in thoughts and prayers... a strong line of storms with tornadoes ripped thru the region this afternoon, hitting the town of Hattiesburg, Mississippi... That's where the University of Southern Mississippi is (Brett Favre's alma mater, among others...) - they are in MY alma mater's athletic conference, a pretty fair 'rivalry', and I've been down there for a few football games...just a neat college town. Tore up the area pretty bad...no known casualties, tho, which is great... here's an incredible video of the twister as it went across one of the main roads thru town, in 'real time', as it were, with some dudes in a car driving basically just behind the thing....incredible stuff...

Thanks again for y'all's support - and be on the lookout for...well, you know...

We watched Roberta over the weekend. It's the one movie of Ginger and Fred's that I'm least familiar with, this was probably only the 3rd time I've watched it. I do have to say, unfortunately, it's also my least favorite of their films, if only because Irene Dunne's singing makes me want to bat my head against a wall and scream.
ReplyDelete...as cool as Irene Dunne is, it's honestly not my preferred 'mode' of vocalizations, either... but evidently it was pretty commonplace at the time (my mom always brings up Snow White as another example of this 'vocal style') - of course, Ginger singing trumps all, even in her 'Polish Countess' mode...
DeleteIt's a good film, and some LOVE it... but as to the Gingery goodness factor... just not a heap of it, other than when she is cutting up as Tanka at the first... so the 'rankings' in review will most likely reflect that...
thanks for the input, Betsy!!!

YAY almost done with the Roberta review, WOO-HOO! :D Actually watched Roberta last night, was in the mood to see it. And as I was watching, I thought that the costume department must of worked VERY hard on the costumes. There were so many! Combine the clothes in the scenes, dance routines,(except for Ginger's gold dress since that was her own)and then the fashion show at the end? That's a lot!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see some new updates to Gingerology too.
And I will be keeping those areas in my prayers. Hopefully everything will be ok. :)
Have a great evening!
...down to a few spots, and it should be ready...well, as mentioned, the 'review proper' will be posted, but the 'alternate plot with caps' will be over the weekend...and, HEY! I've got a three-day weekend! So no excuses, right?
DeleteYeah, with that, some more things will get 'tweaked' and 'established', hopefully... not saying too much, tho...
And as far as I know, Hattiesburg had no deaths, or even major injuries...so that's awesome! Heard at least 100 or so houses are gone, tho... but ya can always replace 'stuff'...
Hope your week ends on a Gingery note, GF!!!

I re-watched Roberta over the weekend, too - I just love the thought of us all sitting down to watch F&G, wherever we are in the world, together.
ReplyDelete.
What I like most this film is how the obvious rapport between Fred and Ginger has grown, how they catch each other's eyes and how much they smile and are enjoying dancing with each other. Some of Ginger's expressions in this are priceless!
Oh, yes, and a very young platinum blonde Lucy modelling a hideous hairy cape! I'd rather have the sparkly, slinky off-the-shoulder number revealed when the dark fur cape made from about 50 dead creatures is taken off.
heh heh...yeah, Lucy's garb is somewhat interesting... and she actually had a few lines of dialogue originally, but it was cut out... and Ginger and Fred are truly 'melding' into 'Astairnrogers', or whatever ya wanna call them... there's no turning back at this point, and I think Fred has come to the realization he has a pretty great partner on his team... thus the routines become that much more incredible...
DeleteAnd yes, it is awesome to share Gingery goodness with folks from all over... it's really the greatest 'aspect' of G-ology, that it IS a 'world-wide' community... when I started up, I was inspired by BethRose's blog, 'Finding Ginger'...which unfortunately is dormant...still there, tho... we were 'racing' to see who could get all of Ginger's available films first...we won't go into detail regarding the methods of obtaining some of these films ;-) ...but it was a fun period in the 'salad days' of G-ology.
Thanks for the input, 'Madam'!!! Or is it 'CMM'?
