...well, first off, I have been knee-deep in 're-arranging' my home office this weekend...therefore, no real progress on the 'Divorcee' review... but it WILL be done one of these days... I promise, Miss Rogers...
In the meantime, just a few stories of interest for y'all...
First off, an article about the passing of federal judge Robert J. Kelleher, who was also an avid tennis player, died Wednesday in Los Angeles, aged 99... check the link below... the Ginger angle? Well, jump to the last sentence of the article for that...
Robert Kellher obit

This next article addresses an event probably wrapping up as I type...sorry I didn't find it a bit earlier, but...it's concerning Ginger's Duesenberg, which is appearing at a car show in Kansas City AS I TYPE (Sunday, 6/24)...well, hope someone out there got to see it, but to me, it's pretty cool the owner is 'taking it around' to different shows...good sign... and I think that it may be Ginger's way of dropping a hint to ME to get cracking on that REVIEW! :-]
Ginger's Duesenberg at Kansas City Car Show
------------------------
Well, wrapping up with a pretty thorough review of the new book, The Astaires, by Kathleen Riley. I haven't read it yet, but will try to one of these years (oof) ...my Ma HAS read it (she's an avid reader), says it's pretty interesting, but not much Ginger mentioned...well, after all, it IS about Fred and Adele... but this review has its first few paragraphs discussing Fred and Ginger's routine in 'Night and Day' from The Gay Divorcee (yeah, yeah, Ginger, I'll get right on that review...) ...and how it circumvented the Hays Office... as it was QUITE the 'interpretive dance', shall we say... :-]
NYT review of 'The Astaires'
--------------------------
Well, that's all I got...for now... oh, did I mention I'm working on the review for The Gay Divorcee? ...hope y'all are having a great weekend, and until that review is reality,
...Keep It Gingery, y'all!

Those are 3 very interesting articles. I have seen pictures of Ginger's Duesenberg and always wondered who owned it. It sounds as though it was lovingly restored. It really is an awesome car.
ReplyDeleteAnd Huey, how did you happen to come across the obit on Ginger's next door neighbor?
One other thing....that description of the "Night and Day" dance will be hard to top in your review :)
...I really would like to contact the owner and see if it will be appearing around here anytime soon... shoot, it probably passed thru here from Florida to Kansas City...well, maybe thru Atlanta...
Delete...as for the 'obit', I was doing a 'general Ginger search' and found it...there was actually a site, called....'Headline Ggrabber', I believe...and it had about a dozen 'recent' Ginger articles... pretty cool.
And yeah, I'm not touching that side of the 'dance'...well, maybe in a 'slight' manner... cause no matter how you slice it, at the very least, the dance results in winning Mimi over...:-]
[EEH voice]
ReplyDeleteWhere is that review?
Oh my!
[blore voice]
Well, I'm sure it will be whamsical! Or perhaps whumsical....
...with those two, it may NEVER get done! ...honestly, I think this is my overall fave 'supporting cast' of all the GandF films... I think Alice Brady is hysterical in this! She reminds me of Madeline Kahn (somewhat in actions, but more in her looks - facial expressions...), who is one of my ALL-time fave comediennes... and with EEH and Blore, they are always doing their awesome slapstick...I like Blore best in Shall We Dance, but his character is obviously the same in all 3 of his GandF appearances... and Erik Rhodes is also great as Tonetti.
ReplyDeleteBut the review is on the way (down to screen caps and the 'general review', which I typically sit and write in about 30 minutes on average)...I'm in the midst of 'transferring' stuff from one computer to the other... and just all the other 'early week' stuff going on... blah.
KIG, Ron!
