ALSO, the re-release of "Astaire and Rogers: The Complete Collection", which has all ten of the GandF films, plus a cool bonus 'biography' disc, as well as a good CD of selected tunes from their movies (wish there were about twice as many tunes on it, but...) will be released on October 12, 2010... ...when I purchased this set, it also had a 'redeemable coupon' that supposedly was for four 'free' posters of various GandF movies - but it had expired... so wonder if that will be in the 're-release', and if there is anyway that offer would be allowed for folks who already have the set...

ALSO, remember, at 4:00 AM Eastern time on September 1, TCM will air "The First Traveling Saleslady"... a neat little movie, pretty 'light-hearted' fare - but a 'middle-age' Ginger is simlpy awesome in this one, well, if you can get past her voice inflection... don't let that sway you - you get used to it.

ReplyDeletebut it also looks like amazon does not have it in stock at the moment so Im guessing its going to be rereleased around the same time TCM does(maybe?). Its one Ive been meaning to add to my collection for a while, but I always buy something else and then lack the cash to spend on more. I MUST buy it when it is released again though.

ReplyDeleteJH: Glad to inform about the 'BigBox'...it is just mandatory...can't emphesize that enough... and I voted on your blog! Great stuff about Ida Lupino... I went with the first hub - they were together for a good bit, and split in '45, which unfortunately seemed to be the case - not sure if the end of the war had much to do with that or not, but probably so... keep up the good work!

Lexie: Yes, I bought two sets on Amazon a good bit back (got one for my mom last Christmas)...but nice to see it being 're-released'... one thing not sure of, tho, is whether there will be a 'Blu-Ray' edition, as was rumored a good bit back... this info on TCM doesn't indicate they will be...not sure how much 'better' the Blu-Ray can enhance a 70+ year old movie...
SG: - go buy it...a 'Back To School' celebration, right? Of course, I love all of y'all's sites... each one is so different and unique, but do a great job! I just wish I had more time to post like I wish I could!
CS: These are so 'perpetual' in the realm of all-time movie classics, it's imperative they remain available to new generations of potential classic movie fans... and yes, I know the majority of us have these, but it is VERY imprtant to keep info on these 'fromt and center'... and yes, I kinda have a 'vibe' that WB is going to put out some pretty good ones here in the next few months...Ginger Classics, are my hope, of course...

I think it can. The image resolution of celluloid tops the DVD absolutely. It should be even better than Blue-Ray as I guess. Warner Bros. re-releases have the best image resolution. But still the very small text-lines in opening-credits are hard to read. I think they should be sharp on original celluloid-films. If we compare Warner Bros. to re-releases of other companies, we see how much better even DVDs could be ...

ReplyDeleteI plan on getting that boxed set when its released. If it doesn't cost too much money, that is. I only own a few of the Fred & Ginger movies, and would love to own them all since they're fabulous! And special features and extras are always a major plus. :)
So if I bought it...do you think I could justify hanging it in my classroom? :P Nah Ill keep all that stuff at home. I have a couple of Disney pics I would LOVE to hang up at school but I have no room. :(

ReplyDeleteCS: I agree that WB has done a pretty good job with the various ones they have 'restored'... the 'archive' series has been ok, but I think they are not as 'polished' as some of the 'biggies' they sell, like the GandF box.
JH: Thanks! I meant to 'follow' when I visited - will go do that el pronto! Love to see all types of 'vintage / classic' blogs, and the ones that are specific to one actress / actor are REALLY cool... cause it is good to have a 'source' when you want to read up on said person! I believe I have seen her in a few movies, but honestly, can't name them (I am REALLY bad with names and stuff... that's why I need y'all to keep me in line with everything!)
SG: I think a postcard should be pretty easy to hang in there... on second thought, I would probably make a copy of the original, since we ARE talking about a room full of kids, no matter HOW well-behaved... like I need to tell YOU that! I am already trying to figure out how to keep 'Bam-Bam' out of the gingery goodness, hot sauce wall, and other miscellaneous areas!
