...'Chance at Heaven' will be on TCM tomorrow MORNING, at 9 AM Eastern... Please check your local listings... hope you get to 'nab' it if you missed it during GingerMarch... It's a pretty good one, but Ginger's role is a bit 'tame'... still GINGER, tho, so...an essential, right? :-]

"Tame" – that's it! I was always looking for an expression like this. After the roaring 20s and the protesting 30s, the 40s and 50s were just „tame“. Well, I guess they had to, because of the „people's war“ against fascism. The Nation had to stick together, even the American Communist party thought that way. How did they feel about it, those wonderful wild, stubborn girls of the 30s? Well, I'm still waiting for Ginger's book, maybe she wrote something about this point...
ReplyDeleteChance at Heaven: 1933-oops. Not a good example for my last post. But „tame“ still is a great expression to describe the 40s.
ReplyDeleteI see, if one can get TCM, it's not advisable at all to have the tuner removed. If one can get it. The darnest thing is, that it should be my damn job to write a critic about „The Devil and Miss Jones“ after April 26 (because it'll be on TCM-tv then), but I won't get the DVDs so soon from MA.
...the time between the Depression and WWII was quite 'Carefree' (pardon the pun), but when the war started, even before Pearl Harbor, the U.S. seemed to 'sober up', as it were...
ReplyDeleteWell, hope you get TCM somehow...it is pretty cool - really worth getting cable for it alone...
