Happy Birthday Ginger!!!

Hard to believe it's been roughly a year since the GingerFest in Independence occurred! And while there will be no GingerFest this year, there will still be a celebration at her birth house, thanks to Missouri Marge!
And of course, we will all celebrate GingerTennial +8 in our own ways... actually, I'm on a road trip to Oxford, Mississippi tomorrow, where my daughter is checking out the place... she's a 'rising senior' in high school, and is thinking of going into law... I'm not sure how a Ginger celebration could be worked in, unless there is an ice cream joint there (I'm pretty sure there is)… but anyway, hope everyone has a good day, try to catch a GingerFilm or two - I've noticed TCM has a few to air on the 20th, so... that's something, I guess...

Keep It Gingery, y'all!!!

A DECADE OF GINGEROLOGY!!!

...has it already been TEN years???

SO hard to believe... seems like... well, 4-5 years ago, I guess, when I started this blog. The sole purpose for this thing was to communicate in the blogosphere with Miss Beth Rose, who had her own spectacular blog, "Finding Ginger", which has been long since dormant... but still a cool blog to peruse - I suggest you do, along with the other ones I have listed on the right-hand side of my blog page. For example, from Finding Ginger, check out THIS post, which y'all all need to take action on!

Over this ten years, your humble author has:

Purchased all of the GingerFilms which were and are available on DVD (including a few 'box sets' containing just ONE GingerFilm amongst a bunch of other stuff), and 'found' the rest, via somewhat perilous means and methods - and still pining (i.e. suffering) to see Hat Check Girl one of these years;

Taken a vacation day from work to watch and record seven consecutive GingerFilms being shown on TCM from early morning to dusk;

Shelled out quite a few clams over time purchasing various forms of Gingerbilia from eBay and other various outlets, to the point of going back over it from time to time and noting "Hey, I didn't know I had THIS! COOL!!!;

Set up a blog for EACH GingerFilm (although those are pretty much dormant, I would LOVE to find time to get those a bit more 'complete');

Traveled to Independence, Missouri in order to be where Ginger was born 100 years to the day I was there (along with a few others ;-)  )...which was a pretty neat experience;

Taken MANY pictures of products with the word "Ginger" ANYwhere in it's title or description (which I guess I'm going to file or something for some future project...);

Written quite a few 'in-depth' reviews, as well as 'Huey Treatments' of the first third or so of the GingerFilms, which hopefully are of entertainment value to you G-ologists out there - need to get back on THAT as well ("Top Hat" is on the clock);

Traveled to Boston University to see an awesome display of Ginger's OWN Gingerbilia, as graciously allowed by Ms. Roberta Olden; all the while wearing a Kansas City Royals shirt (in honor of Ginger, of course), in Boston... ...Red Sox world... it took me a bit to figure out why I got a few 'stink eyes', especially when around Fenway...;

Generally come to view the overall 'timeline' of the universe as two periods, pre-1911 and post-1911;

Named my 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe "Ginger" (she's powerful yet nimble, strong yet comforting, and overall VERY beautiful);

Learned the lyrics to more tunes from musicals and Broadway shows than I'd EVER think I would;

Traveled to Independence (again) to participate in GingerFest 2018, which was wickedawesome to say the least, meeting several great G-ologists, as well as Marge and Gene Padgitt, the incredible restorers of Ginger's birth house, and also getting to meet Ms. Roberta Olsen, who is a 'de-facto' descendent of Ginger, and keeper of TRUE Gingerbilia from Ginger's collection;

Set up a 'dedicated' FaceBook for Gingery stuff, and in the process discovered MANY more G-ologists than blogs would ever produce;

AND... well, made it TEN years!!!

With that, you have probably noticed that the posting is nearly non-existent here since the first of the year; this is primarily due to your humble author setting up his own single proprietorship at the first of the year, thus dedicating LOTS of time to that endeavor. Sadly, G-ology has been neglected... and, although blogs are still a viable format, it is no surprise that FaceBook has really overtaken the blog format, as it is SO much easier to interact and post on... I'm seriously considering doing a lot more on FB, by setting up a 'page' for it... I've always been tentative, due to there being other GingerPages existing there... so, we shall see...

With that, the MAIN thing to say is... THANKS for following this blog!!! It has been a great time, and I do intend to continue it, and hopefully get a bit more prolific on it in the near future.  There's lots of things I want to do, but time is always the culprit... and to do things RIGHT, time and attention must be given to posts... here's hopin'...

But until then, as ALWAYS...

KEEP
IT
GINGERY
Y'ALL!!!

GingeRemembrance 2019

A day of sorrow, but also of reflection as to how much Ginger means to us... she is greatly missed, and will be ever remembered so fondly...

...and ANOTHER GingerFilm is hitting the mass-market!!!

...The WB folks have been busy... ...methinks a fellow Gingerologist has been planted amongst the crew out there and has been going to town on the GingerFilm catalog for distribution... keep on rocking, y'all!!!

This time, it's...

...IN PERSON, from RKO - 1938. This is one that should have been distributed a LONG time ago, as it's Ginger's first 'solo' effort in terms of 'song and dance', sans Freddie... therefore a pretty interesting film, and DEF 'required Gingerologist viewing' (...well, they ALL are, but, you know...). Amongst all of that, the story itself is pretty entertaining as well, with a nice supporting cast, and a solid 'male lead' in George Brent.  The only one about this one is that the dude keeps 'stringing along' Carol (Ginger's character, duh) as to her having to prove to him her identity as a film star... but that's pretty much the plot line, thus it is sustained for the majority of the film... Well, y'all probably know this one pretty well anyway, but for those who HAVEN'T seen it... rectify that situation with the purchase of this DVD... DO IT NOW!!!
...this is not the EXACT pose for the poster (which, BTW is dang near my favorite GingerFilm poster... Roxie might beat this one out by a smidge...), but it is the inspiration, for dang sure...

…Well, it's actually 'available for pre-order'... which honestly seems like I got 'burned' by this once, not sure if it was WB Archive or some other outfit, but... I'll just wait until it's available… even though it's a 'made-to-order' DVD (Most ALL WBA titles are...)  For those who are less wishy-washy, HERE is the link to the pre-order...

AAAAAND, for the record, purt near EVERYONE over on the "It's a Ginger Rogers Thang" group on FB knew about this one well before moi, so... thanks for the solid updating over there, y'all… I need to step up my game here, yupyupyup…

Hope y'all are all doing well!  I hope to get something going here, but... I'm still setting up shop (literally) for my new home occupation... I'm 'breaking even' at this point, with a fair bit of 'potential clients' ahead... here's hopin'!!!

KIG!!!

...NEW GINGERFILM out on Warner Archive DVD!!!!

...none other than Miss Glory herself has FINALLY been restored and placed on Warner Brothers Archive DVD!!! The 1933 RKO film PROFESSIONAL SWEETHEART is an interesting tale which finds Ginger at her sassiest! I definitely recommend this one (duh) for any of y'all who haven't seen it!  There are only TWO issues I have with this film: the first is that about halfway along in the film, a dude whomps Ginger... knocks her OUT... I know it really is a 'pivotal point' in the film, but... it still doesn't sit well with me... at ALL...   the OTHER beef I have doesn't sit well with me either, and that's the fact that the tunes Ginger sings in the film are... well... NOT Ginger... they are 'dubbed' in or whatever (can't remember who - doesn't matter - NOT Ginger, so... GRRRR). OTHERWISE, the film is pretty awesome, although Ginger is QUITE sassy, to the point of bawdy in this one...

Here's the link for purchase, through WB Archives:

Professional Sweetheart on DVD!!!

And for posterity, here's the link for the HueyReview I did for the film back in September 2011:

HueyReview for Professional Sweetheart - September 18, 2011

...so... if THAT isn't enough to get you to Pony (different GingerFilm) up the money to buy this one, maybe Miss Glory will barrage you with volumes of the Encyclopedia Gingertannia!!!

...still one of my all time fave 'gifs' or whatever...

Well, it HAS been a bit since the last post... for those who aren't aware, I have actually started my own business, a work-at-home deal! SO, been quite involved with that since the first of the year... hopefully I can get back into the GingerGroove, especially with this being the 10th Anniversary of Gingerology!!! I hope to have some special stuff lined up sooner or later...

Hope all of y'all are doing well, and thinking about those in the ArcticBlast… Godspeed to y'all…

KIG!
