GingerMarch has ARRIVED!!!

Well, we are FINALLY in the month of March, which is very special this year for all Gingerologists... As you probably are aware, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) has declared Ginger Rogers the Star of the Month!!! As you can see, Ginger is busy getting all dolled up for the occasion...well, not that she needs to do much, since she is THE 'Magnificent Doll' to begin with, right?

Now, hopefully the majority of y'all out there have TCM... but I know many of you do not...DANG IT! wish I could shoot each of y'all a 'dedicated line' or waves, or whatever, for March, so you could check out / record the VKM movies you have been looking for...

But anyway, TCM is throwing the kitchen sink at us, Ginger-wise, which is Awesome with a capital 'A'!!! Each Wednesday in March (well, actually the last four Wednesdays in March) will be dedicated to Ginger's films... on average, 9-10 will be shown, starting in prime time and continuing on into early Thursday morning... so get your recorders programmed, or just pull an all-nighter!

Each week will be a 'phase' of Ginger's career... March 10th will consist of ALL 10 Ginger and Fred films run back-to-back-to-back-to... well, you know. 99 percent of y'all have most, if not all of these already, but, if perchance you need one, here's a good shot at catching it.

March 17th (St. Patrick's Day, BTW...Erin Go Bragh!!!) ...starts prime time with Ginger's movies made just prior to her teaming up with Fred...most notably '42nd Street' and 'Gold Diggers of 1933'... also some of her early work for other studios...some neat early Ginger!

March 24th brings a lot of 'big ones', such as 'Stage Door' (see left...dang, that's a cool pic!), 'Vivacious Lady', 'Bachelor Mother', and 'Having Wonderful Time', 'In Person', and 'Fifth Avenue Girl', among others.

The final week of Gingerfest occurs March 31st, and includes what are two of Ginger's 'signature' movies, 'Kitty Foyle' and 'The Major and the Minor'. Other notables this week include 'Tom, Dick and Harry', 'Tender Comrade', 'Primrose Path', 'Once Upon a Honeymoon', and 'It Had To Be You'.

So, hope you can catch the ones you need... I will try to keep up with the proceedings as best as possible... also be on the lookout for special features on Ginger running between films... my mom saw a ten-minute one narrated by Robert Osbourne, so I'm sure it will be shown throughout the month.
Keep It Gingery, y'all!!!!

Barkleys of Broadway Trivia...

...as prepared by SassyGinger (a.k.a. Katie)... a first here at Gingerology... a contributing editor!!! Which is more than fine with me...especially when the contribution is so great! Hope you enjoy the trivia of Ginger and Fred's last motion picture together, which will air on TCM in a few hours... Good Luck! -VKMfan

Oh boy would I love to have been a fly on the wall that day!

The Barkleys of Broadway is the last of the Ginger and Fred musicals but the only one in Technicolor, and defintely a departure from the rest of the series but a good time! Here are some questions about the film, arranged chronologically as you watch the film.

Here we go!

#1 What is the name of the musical number shown under the opening credits (but can be seen in its full glory as part of Thats Entertainment 3)

#2 According to the curtain call speech, how many shows have Josh and Dinah done together?

#3: How many shows has Ezra done without Josh and Dinah (and how many were flops?)

#4: In which scene did Josh say Dinah could have gotten a little more out of (Jacques disagrees with Josh)

#5: At the party, Ezra is looking for a young lady...what is her name?

#6: What song is Ezra hoping the crowd requests?

#7: When the Barkleys return home, Josh is looking for the cigarette lighter...where does he find it?

#8: What role did Dinah play in high school?

#9: What is the name of the show Josh and Dinah are starring in (this question may have two answers...there is a sign outside the box office window but it is a different name than in the newspaper headline)

#10: Josh is obviously attracted to Dinah's new understudy....and watches her leave. How does Dinah get his attention?

#11: At the gallery, the Barkleys view their portrait, Josh is shaped as a ______ _____

#12: Before the show, Shirlene comes back and asks Dinah what makeup base she uses. What number is it?

#13: When Shirlene mentions that she has been told that the makeup is much to sensitive for her skin Dinah retorts back "Yes, as a kid they used to call me _____ ______ _____"

#14: According to the lyrics of "My One and Only Highland Fling" why was Maggie McDermott not a suitable mate?

#15: Josh, Dinah and Ezra head to Millie's house for the weekend. In what town is the house in?

#16: What does Pamela want to wear for her entrance in The Young Sarah?

#17: What sport are Josh and Dinah playing when Jacques spots them at the house?

#18: When Dinah plays sick before Josh comes in, Jacques wishes her luck and calls her by what famous Bernhardt character name?

#19: When Dinah is playing sick, she says she has never felt like this before. What conclusion does Josh jump to?

#20: Dinah hides "The Young Sarah" script she is reading from Josh by throwing a pillow over her lap. What is she reaching for in her pocket that causes Josh to discover the script?

#21: During the photo shoot, the photographer asks Dinah to feed Josh something...what is it?

#22: WHATS MISSING? Josh is taking a swing at what kind of shoes?

#23: During "The Young Sarah" rehersals how many other actors are on the stage with Dinah?

#24: When "Jacques" calls Dinah at her hotel, he requests that she not be so_________

#25: After they dance to 'They Can't Take That Away From Me" at the benefit, Josh and Dinah talk, but she isn't willing to come back. What is the last thing Josh says before he walks away?

#26: In the scene we see from "The Young Sarah" what is the piece that Sarah choses to perform for her audition?

#27: What is the name of Dinah's maid who helps her in her dressing room?

#28: What is the address of Josh and Dinah's apartment?

#29: When Dinah arrives at the apartment, she puts on a very specific record, what is the name of the song that plays?

#30: As they reunite, Josh tells Dinah several ways that he almost killed himself. Can you name them? (There are 3 but 1 is acceptable)

That's it! Hope you enjoyed it...as always, the answers are in the comment section, so venture there only when you are ready!!!

Once again, a big 'thanks' to SG for compiling this post...and if anyone else out there has any contributions, please feel free to contact me... your patronage is greatly appreciated!!!

Odds and Ends...

First off, as requested by SassyGinger, a pic from 'Broadway Bad, starring Ginger and Joan Blondell... a nice picture of 'shoulders'... :-)

Also...talked to my mom this morning, and she said she saw a 'Ginger Feature' on TCM last night (between movies), where Robert Osborne goes over her career - it was a 8-10 minute feature. Most likely in prepration for March - and hopefully this feature will be shown quite a bit during the 'Ginger Nights'... so be on the lookout - hey, it might surface on YouTube or something...

As for the TCM movie list on the right, I am not going to TOUCH it until March is over... every time I edit it, it throws in 3-4 lines between text lines. And, since they are showing so many, will just keep them up to make sure folks know when they show one, or if it has already been shown... so please just scroll thru it as needed.

Finally, I have started converting stuff to mp3 files - mainly Ginger's audio book, which is neat to listen to, but pretty long overall. I am going to set up two 'jukeboxes' - one for Ginger tunes, and one for Ginger 'spoken word' stuff... so ANY suggestions as to the best 'jukebox' player for a blog site is would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Sincerely,
VKMfan

...Reminder...and 'intro'...

...to a future post (VERY near future) regarding Kitty Foyle, which is being aired on TCM tomorrow at 11:30 AM Eastern Time - if you don't have it, then Judas Priest, tape it... it's KITTY!!!
AAAAND, in conjunction with this great movie, Gingerology is introducing a new feature, or at least a 'twist' on a regular practice around here... we will call it "SceneGinger" (there's a DVD board game with a similar title...maybe a few of y'all have played it...)

It works like this... I will note for y'all to watch a Ginger movie...so, WATCH KITTY FOYLE!!! Then, as soon as I can post, probably this time tomorrow night, unfortunately, but maybe sooner, I will post a QUITE extensive list of questions regarding scenes from the movie...some pretty easy, some not so much...the key is to watch CLOSELY.

ANOTHER AAAAND - 'Roberta' is also airing on TCM tomorrow, at 6:00 PM Eastern. While we are at it, 'Flying Down to Rio' will also be shown early Friday morning (2/12), at 4:00 AM Eastern.

Until then, Keep It Gingery!!!

OK...FINALLY fixed the TCM schedule...

...to the right of the site... did add running times for them, since most of y'all will hopefully be able to record a few of them... So, hope everyone can catch the Ginger flicks they need... I finally figured out that for March, they are airing 43 Ginger movies, running into the morning of April 1st... so, WELL over half of her catalog... good time for budding Gingerologists to bolster their collection!

On another front, I FINALLY received the last of the four LIFE magazines with Ginger on the cover...and of the four, this one has the coolest article about her - she goes back to Independence, and generally goes over her childhood and her family tree... As Maggie brought up, she had some pretty neat ancestors... And then delves into her Rogue River Ranch in Oregon. I will try to scan some pics in from this one - there are a bunch, some familiar, others, not so much...

AND, yes, the 'Day in Gingerology' is still in the works... might just get it going in a day or two. It will be a perpetual 'work in progress', but I should have enough to start posting.

Hope anyone in the blizzard is hanging in there ok!

Reminder for Gold Diggers of 1933...

...at 10:45 am Eastern Time, Friday, February 5, 2010, on TCM. (PS - Thanks for the pic, Zoe!!!)
-
...As you may have noticed, the 'TCM Ginger Schedule' is mysteriously disappeared from the site...well, y'all who are 'seasoned bloggers' may have had this happen to you - it was the weirdest thing... every time I went into the 'edit' of the gadget with the movie list on it, it would insert 3-4 blank lines between each entry... save it, go back in, ANOTHER 3-4 lines on top of the ones already there... before I knew it, there were like 30-35 blank lines between each entry! And, of course, there were a LOT of entries!!! It got so unwieldy and 'stuck', I just had to toss it...arrrgh. But I sha'nt be fazed by this perditious setback... In other words, I will regroup and 're-post' the movie schedule soon - hopefully by this time tomorrow, Saturday morning at the latest... ANY suggestions or remedies to this strange phenomenon which besieged this fair website would be most appreciated...
-
OH YES - another thing - (late) THANKS to SALLY over at Flying Down to Hollywood, for the 'Over The Top' award! I actually was also given this one by Gingerella back on November 21,2009 - and that post includes the questions one must answer as a result... the answers given probably still apply, but you never know... Again, thanks so much, Sally!!!

Keep It Gingery, y'all!!!
